I just got to work too. 7am is inhumanly early. I should be going to bed at this time, not getting up! But day shift on weekend is a gravy train since it's super quiet. Also sucks that it's pitch black at this time now. Makes it that much harder to get up.

I've been working weekends since my first job. My current position was supposed to be less weekend work...but as people retire and the positions don't get filled, us younger guys gotta pick up the slack.

I cover first shift, every third weekend. There's also additional weekend projects that we have to help with also. No automatic OT anymore...

I feel your pain?

You'll get overtime, so it's not all bad haha.

I used to work Saturdays, and to be honest I didn't mind it. I got good overtime, and I had a chance to work more on sideline work projects and studies if I had an exam coming up. And livestream football from England made it good too hehe..

What a wuss!

Have worked from 6 to whatever (2:30, 3:30, 5:30, 8:30 ...(pm's)) for years. Wouldn't like it any other way.

Current time is 6am to 2:30pm. Great to get off by 2:30! :)

To the OP...had a customer ask me if I would work Saturday (today). I said no because my boss gets paid 1.5 times for my work on weekends and I get nothing and he refuses to give time off for weekends worked. I told the customer that I can be there Monday and they agreed.

Meh night is even better. Get up when you want, and you don't have to rush half asleep to get to work. Already awake, just have to go show up. Goes faster when you're not tired too.

I'll still take the 12h shifts over 8*5 though. At least with 12's I get more time off. So if I get a set of 12h day shifts I just have to tough getting up early for 4 days then I'm off. It's rare there are more than 4 in a row. Though sometimes I'll work 6 nights in a row, I can do nights easily. I'd do like 12 in a row if I had to. :D

Tired? Why would you be tired at 6 or 7 if you've been doing it for awhile?

As for longer shifts, I'm all for 4 - 10 hour days. Hell, I would go to for 3 - 12 hour days one week and 4 - 12 hour days the next week - off 50% of the days that way.

I got called in to work a couple Sundays ago to work the morning shift. The girl who normally does it had a family emergency, so calls me at 2:30am on about 2hrs sleep. Had to go in from 5am to 1pm. It's brutal when you're not used to it.

Even the drive in at that time is weird. Those roads are just desolate. I really don't know why we start so early on weekends. There's no traffic worth reporting until 10am.

Yep, I agree. I work 1 to 9. I usually get up about 8:30am and I don't have to rush to get dressed or make my lunch. Nor do I have to put up with driving in heavy traffic.

I used to work 7:30am to 6pm before. Those were long days. Much of it spent running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I'd just go home and crash at the end of it. Was always so tired.

Worse than that, some people I know in the media work split shifts. One girl works from 6-9 then 3-6. You're only working a six hour day technically but what are you going to do in that 6hr span. Especially if home's not close by.

No kidding. I get to work at 4 AM every single day.

I've done that a few times (on 15 plus hour days) but have to admit that I'm even a wuss when it comes to 4:00am (assuming that I still work to 2:30 or later).

It takes a quite a while to adjust to it, but once you do, it feels natural. Heck, waking up at 6 AM on the weekends is considered "sleeping in" for me now. :p

If I have to be somewhere for 4am, it's easier to just stay up. Though that only works if it's a one time thing. :p Heck if I don't work in the morning I'm usually up past then anyway. I don't start to get tired till around 5-6am.

Worked 7 hours (partly in the rain), then stopped at a friend's for a couple beers. I always bank my OT, I'd rather have time off than extra pay that gets taxed higher anyways.

I used to like when we were allowed to bank time, that's what I'd do too. I used to rack up soooo much over time when I was on the help desk. Last year I racked quite a bit at my current job too since we were missing like 2 people.

Would be awesome to bank time. Hell, I just wish my boss would be nice about giving me some time off since I'm salary. He doesn't believe in ANY comp. time....even during the same week that it's worked (i.e. If I work 40 hours total Monday - Thursday, he still would not give me Friday off without a vacation day - even though by law, he has to pay me regardless - Salary law).

I would love to be able to bank some time.....

I work 9a-4:45p M-F. Suckers.

5 days a week sucks, I'd hate to go back to that TBH. I just finished working 3 days, 2 of which were 12 hours. It sucks getting up early, but now I'm off for 4 days, and I'll start nights, so I just have to suck it up when I have to get up early, knowing I have time off on the way. It's like knowing you have a vacation coming up, but it's all the time. Still comes up to 40 hour weeks if you were to even it out, so pay is good. Oh, and vacation on top of that. We actually have trouble using up our vacation time. That's an awesome problem to have. :D

I have to be at work at 530AM on Saturdays. I get up at 315AM so I can get my workout in beforehand. Been doing it for every Saturday now for 5 years straight.

tboo, that's called dedication. workout beforehand? u da man.

Ha. Yeah, I hate working out so I prefer to get it out of the way asap. If I dont then Ill go to work & will be dreading the thought all day that when work is done I have to work out. I do have all my own equipment, though. No driving to a gym in the wee hours of the morning.

I work 8-5 M-F... Rarely weekends, depends on what's going on.
I dont always mind working on a weekend for extra $, I only get annoyed when I had plans and they get ruined.
