Please post harddrives that you've bought recently and has been working fine.

Or post any recent HD purchases that has gone bad on you. Brand, size, model no.

Thanks. I'm in the market for a harddrive. Bestbuy's having a 150 dollar rebate for the Western Digital 120 Gig. Good deal, costing less than a 40 gigger after rebate, but I'm weary as to why the rebate and possible problems.

So post away!

All my three recent ones were Maxtor (30/30/40GB). Works great!

Check the current Hot Deals 500plus thread on the ATA133/7200RPM Maxtor 40GB at OfficeDepot for $9 after Coupon & MIRs. $89-$20 coupon-$60 (2 Maxtox 'bates of $30 each)=$9 (plus tax).

:)

As to "bad Apples", I have limited experience with Mac HDs.

:D

EDIT: There are 2 current threads started by Czar that deal with this exact subject.

There are several threads dealing with this topic already.

My only advice is to (use the search feature) and avoid IBM 120GXPs

Avoid IBM 75GXP series drives. Pretty bad rate of failure on those, but they aren't on store shelves anymore. Just keep your eyes open if you're buying an IBM.
