hey guys
i have a epox 8kha, bought it sometime before the kt266a came, i have a 1.4 gig athlon with 512 mb pc 2100 ram
i wan wondering will i see consideriable diff if i buy a kt 333 mobo or even a kt266a
i mostly use my pc for programming (vc++), some 3d stuff, like 3d max and a few games, (q3, fifa 2k2, max payne)

Yeah, you should see an nice improvement over the regular 8KHA. The KT266 had one of the worst performing memory controllers of the first DDR chipsets for the Athlon. The KT266A on the other hand was the fastest out there until the KT333. The difference between the KT266A and KT333 will be minimal, but the difference between the original KT266 and either the KT266A or a KT333 board should be noticeable. I would suggest going with a KT333 board since it doesn't make much sense to go with a KT266A now since it is a generation behind. A very nice and reasonably priced KT333 board is the Epox 8K3A, which goes for around $75. There are other boards that include more features like the MSI, Asus, or Gigabyte variants, but the Epox is a good "no frills" board.

🙂

what kinda difference are we talking about

i mean in terms of fps , can i get like a 10-15 fps improvement in q3 , i can overclock the cpu thru fsb but i am not sure i will risk the already hot running athlon 1.4c by pushing it a lot
