going from 512MB to 2GB - UPDATED AND DONE!!!

i am on 275FSB for my 2x256MB for 512MB Geil PC4000 ram right now...and i ordered a new video card (finally) and 2x1GB for 2GB G.Skill PC4000 ram. they will be arriving tomorrow.

how much of a performance difference will i see? night and day? barely noticeable? in gaming, general windows, booting, etc...?

also, ive heard that this particular 2GB gskill OCs very well, according to all the newegg user reviews and a couple of internet reviews on it. can i expect the same? im hoping for 275FSB on these sticks...

Very noticeable, but that is the 512mb to 1gb portion, from 1gb to 2gb a little, but that also depends on you apps or games

1GB to 2GB or
512MB to 2GB...it doesn't matter...

As more RAM is installed the performance factor generally goes up.*

I noticed a HUGE difference going from 1GB to 2GB, but others may not have the same experience...

*On most destop PCs, after 2GB RAM, the performance factor is miminal (if non-existent) since most programs don't the capability of utilizing that much RAM.

Going from 512MB to 1GB increased the performance greatly. Doesn't freeze computer as much when Alt+Tab from games. Great relief. Soon about to go 2GB here since I'm selling these sticks.

QFT again man...with my 2 gigs installed. I don't have to wait a minute to make the desktop show up again after a game 😀

I still have my 2 x 512 mb sticks laying around =/ (might as use them as back up I guess ;_; )
 
lol...even after playing halo, or some graphics intensive game, it takes a while to get back to windows...or photoshop/indesign takes a while to load as well.

now im just hoping my overclock will be around the same as i got with my current sticks.
 
I didn't notice much of a difference when going from 512MB to 1.25GB, except in Half-Life 2, and CSS.

Normal applications and non-gaming programs... not as much.
 
it'll only be a big diff if you have a good cpu, if your rnning a general sorta one then it might actually run a bit slower.
Recently i upgraded my pc, which is only running a sempron 2800, to 1 gig of ram, and i saw a big diff, but i borrowed 768 off a friend and added it to it and most things were running slower!

i have an intel pentium 4 2.4C @ 3.3Ghz. its plenty fast.

more memory will always help when multitasking so if you're like me and frequently have 5-10 proggies going at once, the extra memory will keep your pc running "smooth and solid" despite all the applications in use... of course, i believe matching and pairing the memory correctly has a lot to do with its performance as well, but i'm not qualified to say anything more than that about it since i don't really know
 
My PCs have at least 2GB each. Another has less, because its Linux. 512MB is really minimum with today's O/S. 1MB is ok for some but prices are getting very reasonable on 2GB kits.
 
I have 512mb on my laptop. It crawls. 1GB is like a speeding car. 2GB is when you fly.

There is still a huge difference between 1GB adn 2GB, but thats if you game really. Gaming + ALT TAB. Gaming like BF2 or Q4 on ultra high quality...
 
From 512 to 2gb. Itll be a massive step, things will simply go faster, games specifically, i went from 512 to 1gb and it was amazing, went from 1gb to 3gb yesterday and battlefield 2 is no longer that app that takes a good minute or two to completely shut down, or to minimize.

a leadtek 6600GT. its one of the few nvidia AGP cards that can do h264 acceleration (no more WMVHD accleration anymore, even on the 6600 series), which is critical for playing back 1080p videos (see my thread in video).
 
When I had 512MB of RAM I had enough time to light a cigarette while waiting for HL2 to load. Now I only have nough time to get m lighter out and pack my cigs.
