I NEED to win.

My stamina is quite good, but I need advice on when and how much of whatever I should be eating/drinking tomorrow before the race.

Pasta is the only thing I can think of. Chuck a bowl of spaghetti down my neck in the morning?

Watch the marinara the day of a race. The heartburn/indigestion factor can wreck havoc (stress induced asthma is very real) on your time. Go carb heavy tonight (pasta) and stay healthy and light tomorrow (say a bowl of fruit and toast for breakfast) and most importantly drink lots of water. Also, don't fall into the caffeine trap, while it is a stimulant, it is also a diarrhetic (dehydrates you) and that will have a far greater impact. get a good stretch in and be sure to get in a good warm up as well. You should have a sweat going (but not winded or breathing heavy) lined up at the start.

Exactly what he said. Definitely ensure hydration. Don't sprint off the line, just stick to your pace if you know what it is, then push it at the end.

You should've started eating pasta and starches several nights beforehand. Carb-loading one night before won't help you much, but hopefully it'll do something. Keep that in mind for your next race.

A laxative and coffee, it'll be the fastest 4 miles you've ever run:laugh:

4-5 miles - you really don't have to carb load for that distance. That should be run well under an hour, which isn't going to drain your glycogen stores like a a distance race over 60 minutes.

Pasta is good. I prefer potatoes and other high starch foods like that days before the race before pasta - maybe it's mental but I seem to do better eating potatoes than pasta. (I normally do a mix) Also don't forget to get protein in your diet too.

What he said, 4-5 miles isn't far enough to really be that taxing on the body.
