Going Crazy in Word 2013 HELP

So I;m typing in MS Word 2013, make an error, go to correct it, and I can't! Instead, a rectangular box appears colored blue at the top with some crazy symbol at the bottom of the rectangle. Ex. I"ll is an error. I go back to replace with I'll, and the box appears. I can do NOTHING. Now this box appears sporadically whenever I try to insert a word of correct something.
It disappears when I leave that section, but always pop's up again when I go back to correct. What IS this? Can find no reference to it on line.

My document is not complex. I would just as soon disable a lot of features. (i.e. language translations) but that;s another post.

Please help.

Can you take a screenshot when that strange rectangle is up so we can see what it looks like?

Hold on! I just delved---this is one of infinite reasons I will no way upgrade from Office 2010.

It seems, the blue rectangle is a product of auto correct in Word 2013. Please read this and disable that, tho it seems you have to be nimble each time, and not sure if you can disable it permanently.

Well, so far so good. I had a terrible time with Chinese translation until I figured out how to turn that off. If I find that particular symbol, I'll post it. I will say that when I clicked on that symbol, the bottom half of the rectangle turned black,, and a loud beeping sound emanated from the computer.

No,sorry to be vague. When I clicked on the rectangle, the bottom quarter of the rectangle turned black and beeped. I have since copied all text to a new template I made, and the problems went away...so far.

Kind of freaky that the default foreign language is Chinese. Is Bill Gates trying to tell us something? Anyway, I learned quite a bit on configuring MS Word to do what I wanted and not what it wants to do. I'm really liking it now. If the rectangle shows up, I'll let you know.

Well.....with some versions of Windows, infinite language packs are bundled....and also fonts! After all, Windows us used all over the world, right?

Why yr WORD had Chinese (I assume Mandarin?) as its default language I don know, but I am positive it was some kinda glitch.

Again, congrats on hanging in earning back normal!!!:biggrin:
