Used to have a SETI crunching team of about 10 PC's....lost all but my own through people thinking SETI was making their PC's unstable and my old company closing down.

Well just about to go from Palomino 1800+ to Barton 2500+ for my home PC, going back to leaving it doing stuff during the day too....plus now running on my P4 2.53ghz Work PC...wohooo....extra WU's for the TeAm!

Must be nice! My work PC is a PII-366 (mobile)! :(

You've got to be kidding? :Q

Come on John, with your smooth gift of gab you can get yourself a better "work PC" than that. ;) :)

your not serious are you JW?

Sadly, very serious! I work for a Fortune 10 company (Verizon) on contract to a Fortune 2 company (GM) and this is what I get! For two years I brought in my own PC, but I gave that one away in the contest! (Cell2-600/900) Now that we have moved to Lotus Notes and Win2k with domain based security it is much harded to do your own thing, besides it is again company policy. So, I'll live with the Dell 366 a little longer.

Greg, I've tried using my "gift of gab", but my boss has the same pc; thus, my words are wasted!

Yeah I do wanna Overclock this time, would like to hit 2ghz with it.....but not sure where to begin....getting the MSI K7N2....not a fab overclocker but should offer some options....using PC3200.....is the pencil trick still needed...my overclock info is a bit out of date!

If that's a nForce2 board (and I think it is iirc), then that will unlock the multipliers automatically with TBreds and Bartons :)

Cool....Will try nudging up the FSB then......if I can't do that without making the PCI bus unstable then may nudge up the multiplier to 12.0x

Jamie, I got my 2500+ up to 2.2 with no trouble at 166MHz FSB. using a slightly modded (lapped) AMD retail HSF. Temps were a little high, so I backed it off to 2088 (166*12.5) with 48C temps. (XP2800+ speeds for $94.00!!!)

Good luck with the Barton!!!

(BTW, I get on avg, 12 WU's in 24 hours)

If its an Nfrc2 mbrd then the PCI bus is locked at 33MHz regardless of FSB ,though you may have to set the AGP bus to 66MHz to achieve this

Confused
Tbreds & Bartons are unlocked regardless of chipset ,my 2nd rig with a KT133a chipset has a TBred B in it & I can choose any multiplier:).
No joining of the L1 bridges done

Well it's all running up smoothly now, SETI is getting some good times by the look of it....I am doing allsorts on the PC, playing MP3's, surfing, burning CD's, Editing pics etc....running Kazaa too (which we know can be a CPU hog) and still getting times of less than 3hrs....when I left it idling that dropped to less than 2hr30min.

Pretty impressed with the Barton...more so considering it's only 300mhz faster than me old Palomino 1800+.

Temps seem pretty good...either 38c according to the MSI software but 43c according to Sandra, I think I believe Sandra more because 43c is showing as system temp in the MSI software....you would have thought they could get it the right way round!....still that's a few degrees lower than my old 1800+ and the fan is only on low-medium.

People weren't kidding when they said that the Coolermaster HAC-V81 is a bit like a jet engine on full!....still should prove good for a mild overclock....
