Going back to Intel?

I'm thinking of upgrading my rig to C2D. Here's what I'm thinking, now tell me if it will do what I want it to. ;)

- E6400
- P5B-e
- 2GB G-Skill 800
- 8800 GTX

I'd like to run at 8x400 (probably will get a Tuniq?) I've currently got an Enermax Liberty 400W.

1) Will that power supply be enough?

2) Is an E6400 "likely" to do 3.2?

since u are running an 8800 gtx and plan to overclock ur cpu i would suggest u get a 500W PSU just to be on the safe side.
A PSU from silverstone or enermax with good voltage on the 12v rails and high efficiency would suffice. And the E6400 should be able to do 3.2ghz with proper cooling and voltage. There have been many instances of that overclock.

I agree... if you go with the 8800 you will need a stronger P/S.

Most E6400's do 3.2 very easily although you may need a slightly voltage bump or not depending on your luck.

My opinion? unless you can get a P5B-E plus I would not get that board. It only has a options for 2.1v on the board. Some PC6400 800ddr2 is rated for 2.1v-2.2v....Could be close.

I would spend the extra dough and get the deluxe model......

E6400 is likely to do 3.2ghz within the range of stock vcore to 1.4v. Asus mobos have a bit of vdroop so setting 1.4-1.425v may be needed since under load it may drop to 1.34-1.35v.....

What about the DS3?

I'm also wondering if I should wait for the 8600. I just got this Liberty and would rather not have to replace it already. ;) It's got 20A on each of the 12V rails, should be enough, no?

Are there any SLI boards that will do 400 FSB? This board looks pretty nice; it's a bit pricier but I could just SLI my current video card and save some green until the G80's are more reasonable.

Where can i find the specs and MSRP for the 8600?
Link anyone?

Also, will my Rosewill 600W (22A on both rails) be enough for a G80 card?

It's not out yet.

After doing a lot of looking, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just upgrade my video card. I've got an X2 4400+ @ 2.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, with a 7600GT.

I could more than double my game performance just by adding a new video card. It seems like most of the real high end benefits come at resolutions higher than 1600x1200, which is fine enough for me - given that my monitor won't run any higher.

I really think I'd just be better off getting a 7950 GT or a X1950 XT for ~250 and waiting another six to nine months to get more bang for my buck.

I have the DS3 and I am not recommending it....Does that say something? I know all of its quirks and I think from my knowledge the deluxe stability seems a better fit and worth the few extra bucks. Dont skimp on the platform or base of your venture.

definitely not. you need to get an 500W decent one to run all that and OCed.

That sounds much wiser to me.

If gaming is your main priority, you'll see very little benefit from going to a C2D system.

GPU is extremely important, so yeah, i'd agree that route makes a lot more sense.
