Netopia, I certainly wasn't assuming you weren't using NT4. That's why I specifically mentioned that Windows 2000 and Windows XP had recovery tools that were better than the use of a DOS boot diskette. With NT4 I've done parallel installs of the OS on the same or different partitions, transferred hard drives into different boxes, all sorts of other stuff to effect data recovery for folks who were having problems. NTFS4DOS would seem to be a good fit for your circumstances. Or maybe a Linux boot. I've really got to look into that Knoppix thing.
