So yea, I just ordered/purchased a Dual P3 system with a Voodoo 5 5500 to get some retro gaming action going. What I need is a list of must-play games from 1998-2002. The system will be top of the line for the year 2000, so keep that in mind.

So far on the list:
Baldur's Gate II
Deus Ex
Gothic
Grim Fandango
Half Life
Icewind Dale
Max Payne
Myth
No One Lives Forever
Planescape: Torment
Quake 3
Red Alert
System Shock 2
Thief - The Dark Project
Tribes

What else should I include?

Baldur's Gate series, If you haven't played it.

Fallout

Homeworld

Need for Speed:High Stakes

If you really want retro from that period, sign up for an Everquest or Asheron's Call account.

Edit - Forgot to mention: You really should give Gothic a try if you like cool RPGs. It runs fine on a Geforce 2.

I'll add the Baldur's Gate II series and Fallout to the list. I've played NFS and Homeworld already.

I checked on gog.com and they now have Gothic 2 gold as well for $9. I'm not sure how well that would run on that system though.

Anyway - Gothic is a really %^& cool game. It sucked an entire Summer of my life years ago.

Ahhh - RUNE.

I had fun with that one. Totally forgot about it until now.

The graphics were great for the time.

Personaly I would go with a stripped down version of 2k or XP. I see no reason for 98SE, and both 2000 and XP can run a program in compatability mode.

Pretty much all my faves are from that era.

I recommend Deus Ex.
Homeworld.
I think Dungeon Siege could be from that time.
Total Anihilation: Kingdoms.

Also, I recommend you rearrange your list alphabetically or by genre. Once we get done its going to be huge.

I would add Myth and Myth II (from Bungie) as those were awesome RTS like games from that period.

I'll go with XP but I see no reason to strip it down. I've run XP on a P2 350mhz with 384mb RAM and it was still responsive enough for what it was used for (file server, web browsing)

I considered all of those but I've played them already ;) I'll add Deus Ex to the list though, I've been thinking about playing through it again. Total Annihilation is always fun too.....

Guess I'll have to add them to the list as well.

Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire expansion
FreeSpace 2
Age of Wonders 2 Shadow Magic (is from 2003 but it is superior to the 1999 original Age of Wonders)

You have no idea how much time I spent playing that game.... I still think that Alpha Centauri is the best of the series. I like it better than Civ2, Civ3 and Civ4.

I can't believe no one has said Starcraft. 1998 anyone??? Also from 2001 is Max Payne. These are two good games that no one has mentioned yet.
