Hi everybody, I'm Dr. Nick.

Later this week I leave to see a friend.

Should I advise my landlord that I am leaving for most of the month?

Nothing could possibly freeze, the fridge is clear, and I'm not sure what other concerns may arise.

Just send the check, or send it with the note of 'will be gone until xx'?

Or something else?
 
There was a story in the news in the UK recently where a guy's neighbors all thought he was dead because he went on vacation without telling anyone. Didn't help that a guy with the same name and with siblings who had the same names as his showed up in the obituaries while he was gone. But yeah, you might want to tell him just in case.
 
I would leave a note and also a phone number where you can be reached.
Never know what can happen when you are gone , pipes busting, fires, broken windows, etc.

My renter insurance is quite nice.

However...since the masses have weighed in, I'll stick in a quick bit about 'gone until xxx, please fix the sink.'

I would notify them, just in case anything happens - even if you do have renter's insurance.

My lease actually states I have to notify the company if I will be gone more than 7 consecutive days. They take advantage of that time to make repairs if necessary. My previous landlord also asked that of us in the lease, but that was because he owned the condo, and he wanted to be able to get in, make any repairs, and make sure the place doesn't burn down, and get the mail for us.
