I would play "War", or "guess what number is behind my back". Actually I'd spend most of it on BlackJack. And play nickle slots when I wanted to get free drinks.

Have you ever gambled before? Craps is the best odds in the house, if you play the pass line and put odds on your bets. Roulette has horrible odds, since there is a 0 and 00 on the wheel, bring the whole red/black bet thing to below 1:1 odds.

only $500 total? I bring $500 for each day i'm there.

craps- bring at least 7x (preferrably 10x) the amount you risk on the table for each session
blackjack- bring 20x you bet per session as well as print out the basic strategy and bring it with you (if u didnt memorize it already)

very good advice on craps and blackjack
once you start playing with the house's money (i.e. when you're in the black) press your place bets 2/3 of the time. that startegy seems to work well for me
also, don't be afraid to use the startegy card at the table. other players freak out if you don't play by the odds

I like how video poker, blackjack, baccarat and roulette can be both the best bets in a casino and the worst bets in a casino! This is great advice.

As a frequent visitor of Vegas -- so often I'm practically a resident -- I can advise several venues of enjoyment. Unfortunately I don't know addresses, just positions on a mental map. I have the names though, and yellow pages are plentiful.

First off, if you have any friends living there who are willing to take you to a strip club you should go to Spearmint Rhino. The cover is free with local (Nevada) I.D., so at the very least you'll halve the price.

Secondly I can recommend numerous eating establishments. If you're looking for Indian Cuisine there's a nice mom n' pop place in a shopping center on the 4600 block of West Sahara. Can't remember the name unfortunately, but it says "Indian" somewhere in the title. :p

If you want some tasty Asian-based food there's a Korean Barbecue joint called Sun's House on Flamingo. (I think) Fairly cheap, all very tasty. I recommend the Meat Jun. There's also a small chain of Hawaiian restaurants called L.& L. in Vegas. One of them is on the corner of Maryland and Flamingo. (again, I think) Also pretty cheap. Both of them like to put macaroni salad with everything though. :p

You probably have Ethiopian restaurants in the Irvine area, so no big change there. Incredibly good though all the same. Just about every one I've looked up is wonderful.

If you're out late and you need some tasty munchies there's a chain of Mexican restaurants open for (what seems like) 24 hours called Roberto's. A lot better than Taco Bell or Jack in the Box or anything else open that late. Pretty cheap too.

If you want good sushi in Vegas... well you're out of luck. :p Really, most of the sushi joints get their fish from SoCal anyway. Basically they're your local sushi joints, but the fish is older. Yum. :p However, there is a place that does "Naked Sushi", as in you eat it off of a naked girl. That usually makes up for the bland fish.

For entertainment I'd suggest the obvious venues -- gambling, booze, etc. -- as well as some of the arcades in the casinos. As I've mentioned, the Arcade industry seems to make their money soley on amusement parks and Las Vegas. As such Vegas has some awesome machines.

If you can get tickets to see Penn & Teller, or The Amazing Jonothan. Both of them are frikkin' hilarious. Well worth the price. Even funnier when you're drunk! :p

One last note: make sure to tip for all those "free" drinks you get. Otherwise the drink girl may put eye drops in one of your drinks, which will make you *ahem* do a number 2 for about three days straight.

Just make sure that you leave with a lot less than you came with.

Some of us prefer that the visitors pay our taxes for us :D

Spend most your money on shows and food if that $500 includes what you plan to spend on rooms. Stay at one of the super hotels on the strip since this is your first time. You can always go back to gamble and lose money. Your first impression of vegas shouldn't be of blowing your dough on gambleing, but of having fun.

double standard at its finest.

what do u mean?

I'm not singling you out per se, I just want to get that straight. It just bothers me that if I had posted this thread, first thing by some dumbass would be "attention whore"...yet a guy can post about going to vegas to live it up, and it's like "Cool, man!" Being female around these parts is like you have to seriously think 10 times before posting anything.
You're right. Just keep this thread bookmarked and shove it back in our faces when the need arises. ;)

Casinos actually have WAR. I've never seen it in Vegas, but there is at least one WAR table at the Sheraton in Tunica.

Poor advice. This strategy fails to utilize ODDS, which is the only bet in the casino with NO house advantage. However, you probably need to find a $5 table or better yet, a $2 table to play "by the book" with only $500 if you are taking maximum odds (5-10x). Otherwise, a little bad luck will wipe you out immediately.

ahhh, montezuma's revenge.

edit: btw, putting eye drops in a drink wont cause the 'runs'. its an urban legend. it can cause hazardous effects though such as naseau and tremors, perhaps even put someone into a coma. that wouldnt look good for hotel business to see you take a sip of a drink, and the next thing you know, your flopping on the floor having a seizure. snopes link 'montezumas revenge'

$500 is plenty for a $5 table.

$5 line bet
wait for point to be made
max odds bet
$5 come bet
if the next roll is a seven you lose
if the next roll is the point, you win
if the next roll is anything else, your come bet moves up to that number (ifnore 2 & 11)
put max odds on your old come bet
new $5 come bet
rinse lather repeat

This strategy is based on you finding a roller that sets a point and then doesn't make the point or roll a seven for a LONG time. When you find that rolloer he will make you a CRAP load of money. If a roller sets the point rolls several numbers once and then rolls a seven it hurts pretty bad, but you will have to live with it.

This is one of the best ways to play casino games. Half your bets on the table are at true odds (can't beat them odds) and the emotional roller coaster that is a craps table is the funnest thing ever.

I couldn't have said it any better myself, Mwilding. The reasoning behind my eariler comment was that there is a 16.67% chance of hitting a seven, and a 27.78% chance of hitting the six or eight. Much better odds if ya look at it :D

I depends on how many times odds you are playing. If you are playing at a 10x table and you take maximum odds and play the come bet at every opportunity, then it is possible to have $395 on the table before a shooter goes 7 out. That would eat into your stash pretty quickly, no? Even if you only play a max of 2 come bets, you could easily be risking $165 during each point. $500 is still not enough even in this case. Thats the problem with craps. In order to minimize the house advantage the most, it's necessary to risk loosing the most. It's still a fun game though.

Yep, that's the way to play by the book.

There is no way to "find a roller" as you state. It's all luck unless someone is playing with set dice. The only thing you can try and do is maximize your time at the table and have fun in the process.

This is one of the best ways to play casino games. Half your bets on the table are at true odds (can't beat them odds) and the emotional roller coaster that is a craps table is the funnest thing ever.

Agreed. Just don't think that you can win at the game over the long haul.

The Paris Le Buffet is still around $25 on Fri-Sunday. I think it is a great deal. A great buffet. I actually like it more than the more expensive ballagio one.
