Goin' Dual Displays! Radeon VE or Geforce dual head?

Alright! I've got my two monitors, and now I'm ready for a dual head video card. My current card is an Xpert 128; I don't play games, so I'm not looking at a high end card, but I would like one with decent performance. I mostly just multitask and want one monitor to play Family Guy while I'm surfing the net 🙂.

I was looking at the Radeon VE, but I've heard it requires some tweaking for it to work with Windows 2K, which is what I'm running. I've seen this card for around 50 bux, so it's a cheap upgrade for me.

The other option I guess is a Geforce 2 MX400 or something (I forgot). I've seen it for a bit more, and was wondering if it was worth the extra bux and maybe less setup headache.

which one should i go with?

I can't speak for the MX Twin View since I haven't seen it in action, but I do know first-hand that the VE is very nice for 2D dual-display and DVD playback. The guy in the office next to me uses it for that. We're all running W2K and I don't remember him mentioning any setup headaches. Like you, he sometimes watches DVDs or Divx videos on one and works on the other. It's not considered very good for gaming, but he gets decent enough frame rates at 800x600 in UT and is quite happy with it for occasional gaming. As far as mid-priced cards go, the Radeon 7500 also supports dual display and according to all the reviews looks to be much faster in gaming than either of these.

the mx cards have poor 2d quality, I would avoid them. Their dual head really isn't great either, take a ve or a more expensive matrox card.
