Oh, for any new players, the GOG version comes with a downloadable manual. Said manual has detailed descriptions of skills, weapons and such. You're going to need the knowledge to select a good build in training.
Uh, I don't remember any "useless" weapons from my playthroughs.
Also, there are no "useless" skills,
Go into any RPG and make Charisma your maximum priority, and you're fucked in combat.
EMP rifle, Stasis Generator.
Ummm...are unneeded due torepair and modifymaintenance tools and French Epstein devices.
My sorceress would like a word with you. I didn't quite catch it, but I think it started with "maximized, empowered" something-or-other...
Used the former to take down heavy mechs and turrets with ease (due to the lack of recoil and no waste of AP ammo/standard weapon condition) and the latter to freeze cyborg assassins on the run and groups of spiders.
You need both skills to use those tools in the first place...
Requirement of Energy 6 means 147 modules on Normal to save that 1 AP round on turrets and 2 rounds on heavy mechs, along with taking up 3 spaces of inventory.
Stasis -- yeah, you could tech to Heavy 3 and lug it and prisms around for those enemies; or you could just shoot them.
No, one uses maintenance and the other has no prereqs. Maintenance also has the bonus of giving you more charge in your implants, powered armor, and energy weapons, whilegives you no added bonus and is completely replicated byRepair, which are plentiful enough.Auto-Repair Units
A couple of the weapons are unbreakable, too.
I want to pick up this game, but I also want to grab it with SS1 so I'll get the full experience.
Are there graphic mods/updates for SS1?

You apparently didn't have the ammo issues I had; what difficulty were you playing on? There were multiple times, especially on the middle levels, where I found myself with tons of anti-personnel ammo and zero armor-piercing. Try taking on heavy mechs with fucking pellet rounds. Finding an EMP rifle saved my ass.
I'm unclear....is everything ready to go with this if you put all those mods in the mod folder? Or do you have to do anything else?
Hrm... would there be a reason why i can't hear the training module speeches?
I played last night for the first time in over a decade and it scared the crap outta me. I had forgotten how good this game is.
Is there a mod that makes the HUD larger at 1080p? I'm playing on a 50" 1080p Sammy from ~7 feet away and working with the inventory is kind of a PITA. Not unmanageable but larger text/icons for all the HUD components would be extremely helpful.
I've done some Googlin' but no luck, yet. A lot of mods to sort through.
Go into your cam_ext.cfg file and it's in the 10th paragraph under display mode:
; enable scaling of in-game 2D overlay (HUD), makes the things like current item/weapon text, or SS2
; HUD/panels, larger at resolutions of 1280x960 or higher with pixel perfect scaling (requires "use_d3d_display")
; NOTE: Enabling scaling may actually improve performance, especially at high resolutions.
;d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 64
Remove the semicolon before d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 64.
