GOG - Something's up . . . .

Wow a hint at having better to no DRM, and at ditching bullshit prices in euros instead of dollars for europe ... awww yea!

edit: wait .... they already do that ... and I've been using steam all this time...

Oh well... live and learn

I like the valve on the back of the knight's helmet. Nice little dig 😀

Yeah, I didn't associate the Spiket valve at first myself 🙂

In the second video they allude to Gamersgate and their Blue Coins.

This could be a really interesting announcement, there's a rumor going around that Grimlock is going to be a new release on GOG.
The Grimrock Forums indicate the release date is going to be announced next week as well (for some reason there is no specific release date due to some kind of NDA restrictions).

I like the (not so subtle) jabs at Valve and GamersGate. 😛 Silly, but harmless.

They've certainly been talking about selling newer games on their site. I wonder if they'll be releasing their own full-featured desktop client like Steam - with store browser and everything - but without DRM (as in, you don't need the client running in order to play the games?) It'll be interesting to see.

I don't want yet another client. I like their current system of just downloading the installer.

If they do release a client I hope it's not locked to one harddrive like Steam. I love Steam, but that's my one complaint against them.

Are you sure this is the case with Steam? I have steam installed on my laptop and my desktop and use the same account. Using offline mode, I can play one game on the laptop and a friend can play another game on the desktop at the same time. I didnt know this was possible for a long time either, but it sure makes Steam much nicer. The only thing of course is that you cannot play online on more than one computer at a time.

He means Steam wont use more than one hard drive on a single computer. Say your D drive gets filled up and you have plenty of space on E. You can't just start installing Steam games onto E because D is filled.

There is a work around to do the above, but I have never done it myself.

It must suck for people who have huge steam libraries. I think if I installed all my games it would be 800GB or so, and I have a 1TB HD(dedicated to steam). I will definitely exceed 1TB this year after Summer sale probably, Christmas for damn sure.

Yeah but who would actually have all 800Gb installed at once?

I have about 180 games on steam that probably take up around a TB, but I only have about a third of the games installed.

I have over 300 games that would takeup terabytes, my 1GB drive is full and Steam is bad enough it can't handle multiple drives directly (you need 'symbolic links').

It does suck. I have a lot of my games installed, but when I want to install something new I have to uninstall something lol. I have a 1TB drive just for Steam.

I've got an SSD so I need to juggle my Steam games between the SSD for the ones I'm currently play and my larger traditional drive for those that I may play again in the near future. There are simple software that can do this for you (which I use to great success) but it would be nice to do this with Steam directly.

So... they said they'd be updating their site at 9:00 GMT. It's that time now, and I've been mashing F5 like a maniac. Hmm... maybe I should just be patient for once and go to bed, then see what's going on in the morning.

Annnddd... it's up!

Not a lot to look at, but they've done some redesign, updated their downloader, and added a handful of newer(ish) games.

You'll be happy to know that Legend of Grimrock can be pre-ordered for $11.99: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/legend_of_grimrock

Well, they added like 7 new games, plus pre-announced a few others:

The Whispered World
Trine
Treasure Adventure Game
(Free)
The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time
Anachronox
Hind
Cryostatis
(I thought they had this already?)

Upcoming:

Darwinia
Machinarium: Collector’s Edition
SpaceChem

So it looks like they're going to be a release outlet for Indie games as well.

New site design's going to take a little getting used too (Tabs), but I definitely like the other changes.

Legend of Grimrock looks like the old AD&D Eye of the Beholder with enhanced graphics. This could be fun.
