meanwhile, while it is looking for a nonexistant connection it takes up 100% cpu time. why the hell can't i just play my goddamned game that i paid for?

what??? sounds like spyware/malware :laugh: Yeah, I'll agree that steam is junk usually. It works strange for me. it goes through spells where i can't connect to servers normally and have to go to the console and type "connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". i wish they would do a complete overhaul of that application and actually make it run properly.
