Had an x1300 die on me, got a HD2600 as a replacement.

I removed the old drivers and ATI files, installed the latest catalyst drivers(7.10)... when I install in windows, everything is good, then when I reboot, I get the BSOD

"The driver is mismanaging system PTEs."

I installed the 64 bit driver for Win XP Pro 64bit. Argh. I've tried older versions with no luck either.

Anyone else have any other ideas?

Thanks.

Well I uninstalled the driver for my Nvidia card, and lo and behold, I get into windows just fine on my ATI one. Looks like it was a problem with my Nvidia card. (I have two cards, one Nvidia and one ATI).

Now to get the Nvidia one to work...

i thought that mixing ati and nvidia cards were a no-no

do you happen to have the lastest .net framework installed?

Yep I do. x64 3.0

I had a fx5200 and the x1300 installed at the same time before and it worked great. My old system has a 6600gt and radeon 7000 together.

I could never get two cards from the same chipset manufacturer to work together which is why I mixed them up.

Good job! You owe yourself $5.

Both cards work, but not in the presence of one another :p

You cannot seriously be trying to run one nvidia card and one ATI card from the same computer... are you?

Yep I am, and its worked for me twice on previous computers without a hitch. I could never get two ATI or two Nvidia cards to work together.

The 6600gt and 5200FX didnt work together. The x1300 and radeon 7000 didnt work together, but when I mixed the 6600gt and radeon 7000 as well as the x1300 and 5200fx together they all worked.

The x1300 just died and I replaced it with the HD2600XT.

I have a dell E521, it only has 1 PCI express slot, so I have to rock a regular PCI video card. If I built my PC and could have went with a dual PCI express setup, then I'd be fine.

I have 3 monitors right now. Two 20"s and one 24" in the middle. I use them for web and graphics work.

Well the solution is obvious.
1 (optional). Buy a new case: 30$ (most likely necessary, depending on your desired cards and current case)
http://www.newegg.com/product/...p?item=N82E16811119115
2. Buy an SLI/Xfire mobo that is compatible with your ram and cpu
3. Swap one of the cards out for an identical card to the other one.
4. Take all the existing parts EXCEPT the motherboard and put them in the new case with the new motherboard.

Viola, instant solution. Your problem stems from trying to push a square block into a circular hole. It is unnatural, unthinkable, and was never meant to work this way.

And before you mention price... how much do you make an hour, and how many hours have you spent messing with it (and are going to spend before you break and take my solution).

Unless you are in highschool where your time is worthless and your parents give you a tight allowance then you should just pay alittle to do things right.

I had a raptor + 750GB SATA raid1 array in one computer and an old computer with a 160GB ATA drive, and 500GB SATA raid1 array in another. Two weeks ago I bought a new case and motherboard (going from nforce 4 to nforce 570 ultra for the 6 SATA ports) I then moved everything from my better computer to the new rig as well as the raid1 array from the old computer... disassmbled everything else for parts to sell.. and now I have one computer that holds 5 drives... 1 raptor for OS. a 750GB raid1, and a 500GB raid1...

1. If you have any leftover ATI drivers from a previous display device, uninstall the drivers and the ATI Catalyst Control Center software.

2. Then uninstall your Nvidia Geforce driver.

3. Finally, update the driver manually. DO NOT USE THE NVIDIA INSTALLER. DO NOT USE THE EXE. Just go into the properties for the display adapter and update the driver from the files in C:/NVIDIA where the installer previously dumped them.

4. Reboot and try again. The BSOD should be gone.

I'm surprised threads live that long. When does this stuff get archived.

When people do Google searches for solutions to problems, some web sites with forums are more likely to appear in searches than others. As a PC tech, it's my responsibility to make my solutions available to other techs who may be searching for answers. When I was in Geek Squad previously, and as an independent PC tech since then, it was and is a common practice to search for solutions to specific computer problems. If I find a solution to a problem, and then I don't post the solution to forums, I'm not helping the countless people out there who could run into the same problem.

I also post these kinds of solutions to my livejournal account from time to time. For example, recently my wife was trying to play Borderlands with her new graphics card and the system had slowed to a crawl for no apparent reason. All the other games on her PC ran at breakneck speeds, but Borderlands was running ridiculously slow and we didn't know why initially. We tried all the solutions that had been posted online, from the generic "update your drivers" to the more bizarre "underclock your card" suggestion, and nothing worked. Then I tried tinkering with the ini files to see if it was something to do with the system trying to use PhysX with a non-NVidia card. No dice. Then I uninstalled PhysX and Borderlands wouldn't start at all. I reinstalled PhysX and it was back to slowmoville. Finally the solution turned out to be to uninstall all the NVidia drivers and most of the NVidia support software on the machine. No forums that I had been to even hinted at the idea that it could be a conflict caused by leftover NVidia drivers. Everyone assumed that drivers that weren't supposed to be in use would have any effect, but it turned out to be the solution. If I hadn't posted the solution to that problem, how many people would search endlessly and fruitlessly for the answer to that problem? I don't care if a thread is a year old or ten years old. When you have the solution to a problem that someone out there could be facing, the responsible thing is to post the solution.

You children have a nice day, now. K?
