Goddamn WoW and my SLI set up! Please advise!

Jesus you aughtta think that a 7800 512 GTXin SLI could f'in RUN WOW at 2560x1600 with the 32 bit sampling and 4x(The very bottom option in the video menu to the top right) with all the bars to the maximum right, but I CAN'T!

Yeah you heard right! TOday I was in MC and we were @ Magmadar's core hound packs

When all the AOE got spammed I hit 8 FPS, 8 FRICKEN FPS! On top of that, consistent FPS is around 36-45!!!

What the heck am I missing?!!? I have 4 gigs of OCZ Ram and a 4800+Dual core on x64!

Someone help me fix this, I am astounded at how much horsepower a DAMN 2560X1600 needs

ADVISE TO EVERYONE, DO NOT BUY A 30" APPLE, IT'S NICE BUT DAMN IT'S EXPENSIVE F'IN RUN!

/endrant
/beg for help

another vote for drivers.

and what kind of FPS do you get in other games at that kind of resolution/ eye candy? I mean, that is DAMN high res, and while that is a beefy card, thats the kind of resolution Nvidia are pitching Quad SLI at, isnt it?????

Side note: why the 4 gigs of RAM? Im seeing more and more people asking about this/ actually getting 4 gigs, and I cant see why. I think 2 gigs is enough (for now) and the 2T command rate, IMO, pretty much renders it pointless for the majority of tasks.

There's pretty much no way that you're going to be able to run every game with the highest settings on a 30 inch Cinema Display. Try dropping down to 2x AA. That should get you up into playable territory.

I don't see WTF the problem is with the OP's post.

Gagan, 7800GTXs SLIed would run a resolution of 2560x1600 in games pretty well (forget FEAR though, it ain't happening). But turning on 4XAA at that res is really pushing it. Get a couple of these and you'll be fine though. 😉

Is quad sli really logical (unless money is no object) ?? You would have about twice the money in graphins then the rest of the system.

They're available in Europe.🙂

They wont work on Quad formation. Thats just 2x 512 GTX's on 1 board. Buying 2 boards wont ensure Quad SLI functionality.

But yea, that is a very high resolution, coupled with a high AA/AF, its very stressing on the fill rate.

I'm glad that I am satisfied enough with a 19" flatscreen. Seems like it gets F'n expensive once you buy a large 24" widescreen or higher.

Yeah, I gotta say, that those apple Cinemas are going to be pushing it even for WoW because Wow is pretty intense and also has a LOT of other factors that go into what FPS you get besides how butch your GPU setup is, latency being the biggest one.

And what do you think they are using for Quad SLI machines? The 7900GX2 is the same card used to demo the Quad SLI machines. There should not be a problem setting it up as a Quad SLI setup if you bought two cards. The only problem I see that may need to be addressed is the PSU. This is where you may need a 1K W PSU.

Oh, here you go. Now what was that about them not working in Quad SLI?

What about that article?

" The 7900GX2 is expected to be a dual slot, dual GeForce 7900GTX card with 1024MB of DDR3 specifically for quad-SLI."

Nothing is confirmed as of now. And in reality, its not a hardware issue (1KW PSU's do exist). Nvidia has a habit of using drivers to disable hardware things, such as the 955/975 not being able to do SLI at all.

My point was that if this is what they are pointing Quad SLI at, why would you try the same with "normal" SLI? I just think OPs expectatiosn were too damn high. End of story.

OP you forget that SLI != to greater preformance. If you look at some benchmarks you can see that SLI can be even lower than a single card solution.

But again, make sure you have the latest drivers too.

Don't expect to see anything over 64.1FPS. WoW has a dual CPU\ dual core bug that caps the framerate.
