Goddam hippie DC lawmakers... they took our bags!

What the fuck good is this supposed to do? Am I going to opt to carry by hand my hamburger, fries, napkins, utensils, etc. back to my office now in lieu of paying $.05c for a paper bag? Half this city is a drug/gang war zone, but hey, now eco-terrorists like Jeeebus won't waste our precious mother Earth!

What a freaking crock of shit. That is out of this world. What's even worse, is it isn't for the environment, it's so gubment can get more money.

I have to agree. DC is our nations capital and its a shithole. And no politician for the past hundred years has bothered to do a damn thing about it.
But the paper bags apparently need to be firmly regulated.

Fuck them. Fuck them all.

Sounds like a great idea to me. That way people who really need bags will only pay a modest amount, and it'll cut down on the tards buying a bottle of water(!) and having it put in a bag.

It's only 5 cents. Surely there is better rant material?
Granted, I would prefer it if they gave incentive for using your own bags; a few of the groceries I go to will subtract 5 cents from your bill for each bag you bring. Saves me money, probably saves them money, better for the environment.

If they are going to start attacking packaging, I really wish they would ban that hard plastic that is used when packaging just about any kind of small electronic device.

Not only is it a complete waste, but it is damn near impossible to open.

No, it wont.
See I think this policy was made specifically for folks like you. Folks who think "feel-good" laws actually make a difference.
I bet you think banning guns actually reduces gun crimes, dont you?

Does this mean the cost of items will be coming down since the price of the bag will no longer be built into the price of the item? Somehow I doubt it. You're already paying for the bag anyway. It's called overhead.

Hardly dude. I'm libertarian, borderline anarchist. I just get tired of seeing blue bag trees, and storm drains clogged with bags that didn't need to be used in the first place.

I think this new 5 cent charge goes to the city, not the business. It's more like a tax. The business still has to buy the bags.

Its a tax. The government collects it.

I welcome taxes that are so easy to avoid. I'm not opposed to letting idiots willingly pay more than their share of taxes.

It's not the taxes you should care about, it's the spending.

Pretty much. You're not allowed to carry bags into most stores since it opens the door to theft. It's basically a law forcing everyone to pay the bag tax.

damn near every store around here sells reusable bags that you buy once and use until they fall apart

A lot of grocery stores are doing that in Ontario now. I and a lot of people use grocery bags for garbage bags anyway, so if we stopped getting them we'd just have to buy garbage bags instead.

so how do they know how much to charge you? like when we go do our weekly food shopping i have no idea how many bags its going to take. so will they have to count the number of bags after they are all bagged and do another transaction?
