Yup, bought 4 domains recently, after icann.totalnic.net conned me out of some of my domain names.

Godaddy offers a great service at a great price, I recommend them to all my friends.

1and1.com is $4.95 if someone wants to potentially play with fire!

Last I heard they would let you transfer your name to someone else if you wanted. I think the rumors of them holding it were wrong.

*.us domains were $4.99 a year just last month on godaddy so they have actually gone up some.

I thought .com at godaddy has always been $7.95/yr. Either that or just above $8 (depends on length/term).

I'm looking at registering my first domain name. Is it worth the extra $9/yr to have a private registration? Also, there look to be many levels of service (hosting), anyone have any tips for a first timer?

Thankx!

You don't *have* to do the private registration - I have done the fake name/address thing before. I guess it could be grounds for pulling your registration but it hasn't been a problem before (also, make sure you provide a spam email address).

godaddy is an excellent and reliable service, I have had a domain name registered there for YEARS! They also discount for multiple year registrations.

I've also had no problems with Namecheap.com - they were reccomended here once by someone else, and I've been very happy.

godaddy - *.us are now $4.95. Hostway.com has been $6.95 for .com for a while. I have 2 through hosway and 2 through godaddy and no problems out of either.

They're all resellers.

The BEST solution is to get your own domain resellers account from eNom.com which is ICANN Accredited.

Some reseller web hosts such as clook.net and thrillhost.com offer a FREE eNom domain account with the purchase of a web hosting account.

I like GoDaddy and my domain name is due again in Feb. I have more money these days, I may up it for more than a year at a time.

I used godaddy to buy a .us domain last time they had a cheap deal. 2 years of anonymous registration was $27 or so.
