Depending how future fights go I may need to reevaluate my shield choice, but the issue is same level gear use the same materials and it's not like I have extra lying around as I upgrade gear I use/like immediately as high as I can with on hand materials.

The shields aren't too bad in terms of leveling. By the time I cleared out the Crater area, I had enough materials to upgrade two shields to a decent amount (Level 8 or so). Pick one that is most suitable to your playstyle, along with another that you'd like to try. For me that was the Stonewall (main playstyle) and Dauntless (try).

Just a tiny (funny) update, I went back to that first realm rift I found in the forest as I had been cleaning up "open" items and seeing if I could clear 'zerkers, rifts etc and my first time opening it, the fight lasted all of about 3-4s, as my unload all abilities opening knocked both elves off, but I swore I still saw they had 80%-ish of their life. But apparently they are allergic to water and I was awarded with their lewt.

Yeah I went back there as that was my last one to do, and it was a cake walk lol.

Funny. I have finished the game (I will go back and finish the side stuff) but i started a new game+ on the first God of War because I want to do another playthrough of ragnorok and the first game is just so brilliant. I haven't played it years and it's still an awesome experience.

I finished God of War last night. Man oh man what an incredible awesome ride it was. Even the way the credits are done after you finish the main mission you can just tell the love that is poured into the game. And then after you beat it there are new missions that open up and after you complete one of em, you get the "real" credits with some awesome music. The climax of the game is like one of the best I can remember and lasts a long time. The last like 4-5 hours of the game are just non-stop action and the battles you encounter as well as the scenery and environments are just unreal. This and Elden Ring are definitely my favorite games of this past year. It's hard to say which I enjoyed more since they are just so different. One has this incredible story with very cinematic story telling, and one I couldn't tell you wtf the story is even about or anyone's name lol.

I would say I did have a few gripes with the game.

1. The Atreus parts were just tedius for the most part. I get that the point of them are mainly just to move the story along, but they dragged on a lot IMO, especially the first "long" one where you are basically doing chores and moving at a snails pace. It just dragged on way too long. Then when you get to Asgard for the first time I thought again it dragged on way too long, but I get that it was for story purposes.

2. The damn map. I hate the damn map in this game. I have how the circle with the direction isn't where you are - you are the dot BELOW it. It's just so confusing and I never got used to it, and the map just didn't feel to scale or something. I found it very hard to use the map and navigate how to get to some places based on trying to follow the map. I also wish you could drop way points or something to help you know where you have already been. It also is completely useless when you are underground or inside a mountain for instance.

3. Mystic gates - I just wish there were more of them on some realms. In some realms there just aren't enough of them and wasting time back tracking to spots when the map isn't very helpful, is just tedious and wasn't fun. For example there is an area east of Freyr's Camp that I was missing some stuff so I had to go back there and it just took forever to get there. Last night when I cut it off I am stuck inside one of the mountains on one of the realms and basically lost and not sure how the hell to get where I'm going. I know where I'm going I've been before since I see some stuff on the map, but I don't even remember going there since it was earlier in the game.

Again though, overall I loved the whole game and those are just some little gripes I had after putting 40+ hours into the game. Amazing experience.

@purbeast0 : There are additional Mystic Gateways. I had the same question myself since it was a pain in the arse to backtrack through Vanaheim, but if you talk to Ratatoskr, he'll give you a few more seeds of Yggdrasil and one of those seeds will open up a new gateway in the eastern part of Vanaheim.

Yeah I had 3 that were undiscovered after I finished the worm quest. Or maybe he was going to give them to me anyways I don't know lol. But it was when I went to him with all of the worms collected and after that he gave the seeds to me.

It's still a bit annoying trying to navigate some areas though.

I dunno, I kind of been wanting to play the 2018 game before Ragnarok came out. Now that it's on PC I was wondering if it was actually performing better. But I don't think I would ever have time to 100% any game since I just don't get a lot of dedicated gaming time.

I turned down the difficulty to give me balance .. no mercy was doable but it was getting tiring playing encounters over and over again. Maybe I’ll actually beat the game now rather than abandoning it.

These games should have an autopilot mode so you can sit back and watch the PC play for you and take over as soon as it looks like the PC is doing a bad job. The autopilot mode could have quick time events where you hint to the PC where it should strike first. Hectic, repetitive combat in gorgeous games like this often prevents one from being able to admire the scenery and visuals as much as one would like to. I prefer stealth games for this reason. You can sneak about and take your time enjoying the graphics whilst you devise a plan to slip through the enemy defenses.

I turned it down from Give me Balance to Give me Story at the berserker king, and he was still hard. I also beat another boss after him and that was basically all I had left at that point as far as enemies go.

I am still grinding out no mercy, is the King a single boss? Because holy shit fuck the one with a guy tank and the two sisters. I could almost get the guy down without being touched, but turn the wrong way and BAM fire/ice ball to the face and then too slowed to evade ANY attacks, so basically insta dead. Think I had to use rage to clean it away, even with the resist and roll away socket'd in the amulet.

I have yet to beat any berserker on any level. And I finished the game twice. I put 1200 hours in Elden ring and platinumed it but I can't beat a Berserker but I can beat Melania in Journey 7! WTF?

Wtf indeed, the initial zerkers my 10 year old beat (on story mode) already. Also 100% the game this morning. Fuck it was epic, sad it's over. Also that twist, that MF'er.

Just started this last night and what an opening with that fight against Thor. Though I gotta admit I died a few times to him because I was so used to the Elden Ring controls that I was trying to press circle instead of cross to dodge and L2 instead of L1 to parry. So much muscle memory from 400 hours of Elden Ring that I had to unlearn before I could finish that fight with Thor.

Yeah I active rage mode A LOT on accident. It is kind of annoying.

Ugh that screwed me over so many times fighting Sigrun in the first game since you want to save rage mode for when you're low on health since each strike gets you health back. Took me forever to beat her on Give Me a Challenge because of that. Never even bothered with Give Me God of War.

I had that problem as well with the controls with X and O mixing up. I got used to it though.

But you can change the controls to what you are used to with Elden Ring as well.

Thank god for the accessibility settings letting me extend the time I have for puzzles, as hitting all three pots with your axe in the original time period to unlock Nornir Chests is a nightmare when you have stick drift.
