GOD I LOVE WINDOWS

this is pissing me off really bad....i just reinstalled win2k 'cause of the probs i was having before, and now it is worse. it has frozen on me at least 5 times today. Just totally locks up, no BSOD, my music keeps playin, but no keyboard or mouse response at all. then when the current song ends, it doesnt go to the next one.....i was thinking maybe its my psu??? but then i realized...i dont have crap for hardware, just the basics (asus a7v133, 512MB ram, duron 750, gf2mx, tbsc, nic, cdrw, maxtor 30GB, no floppy or dvd or anything else....3 80mm fans), and also linux never does this to me so i'm afraid i must blame it on windows.

/me cant wait till he is a linux guru and can rid himself of the poopy M$

or i'll just downgrade to a BX or somethin....

..........but i dont have a mac nor the money to get one nor the desire.

nothing against macs, but theres a million other things i'd get before i splurged for a mac

goddamn....my g/f was tryin to play d2 and it kept freezing over and over....man fark this i'm gonna uninstall the via 4in1's and see if that helps anything...i'm seriously starting to consider selling my mobo and cpu and going for a bx or an 815 and a pIII or somethin...

via and ms are suck...nvidia too (drivers here lately)

wtf is goin on man....

it has nothing to do with "figuring it out", that is what i'm currently in the process of doing (i gotta mess w/ some drivers, see if that helps).

it is not a matter of intelligence or knowledge, it is a matter of patience and trial and error (and error sucks!!😛)

yeah man i have sp2, all the updates from ms, newest detonators and newest 4in1's.....i was just reading a thread where they pretty much concluded that the 4in1's are more trouble than they are worth, so i uninstalled them (that was a mess😛)

so far no crashes, but its only been 5, maybe 10 minutes. we'll see....

you know what?...my gf had the computer freeze quite often when playing d2 before.....but i have sp2, always have, but it did the exact same thing that the fix supposedly fixes.

i tried to install it, but it detected i have sp2 so i already have that fix....like i said, we'll see...

Is your computer overclocked? When I have my FSB cranked waaaaay up, Counter-Strike and Serious Sam freeze the computer. The screen just freezes and the sound keeps repeating.

I've turned down the FSB and cranked up the clock multiplier, so I have roughly the same megahertz rating, but now it doesn't crash in 3D games anymore.

BTW, I have Win2K SP2. 🙂

no o/c

this computer is crap for o/cing. it has a superorb, and generic ass ram. it runs at 31c though un-o/c'ed...

i took the fans out of the superorb and have two 80mm fans mounted, one on top, one on the side.

add to the fact that now it's inside of a friggen tupperware case (real small, bad ventilation), and o/cing is not much of an option.

also, before when i tried to o/c, it wouldnt go very high before it would randomly boot to a black screen, then i'd have to reboot and then all the settings got thrown to default.

so, the answer is, no o/c.

😛 (god that was a long response to a simple question)

maybe you have IRQ problem between sc and NIC, and the ACPI. Happens to me and my solution is to reinstall windows w/o ACPI.

I'm curious...what Detonator drivers did you install? I've heard that the 23.11 drivers are bad, so use the 21.83 drivers from the nVidia website. Also, when you installed Win2K, what order did you install your drivers, updates and such?

You say that like its a bad thing.. heck my system isnt much better, ShuttleAK12, 1024mb Ram, duron 800, 40 gig raid array, runs sweet under 7.2.. sounds like there is another problem.

i am using the 23.11....i will find the 21.83 and try them, thanks.

first i install windows, then i install the nic driver, then i install the 4in1's, then video, then windows update, then sound drivers.

i've given that some thought....how easy is it to get rid of acpi w/o a reinstall?? i believe just go to the properties of "acpi compliant computer" and "upgrade" the driver to non-acpi, i can do that right?

<< all I can suggest is you try running your AGP transfers at x1 if you're not already doing so! >>

thats worth a try, i dont game much and my g/f just plays d2 which isnt the most intensive game around.

well, not that it's a bad thing, i just meant that i dont have elaborate hardware like 2 video cards and a scsi card and two nics and 3 optical drives and 4 hard drives..that type thing. i figure that with my hardware being so simple, it's kind of pathetic that i have these kinds of problems.
