Why can't we get a minor upgrade that gives Windows XP users the Office 2003 dialog boxes.

I want:

1. Adjustable places bar ( I need those extra folders )
2. Ability to double click title bar to maximize.
3. Picture folders should open by default to thumbnail mode or allow folders to be set.
4. An adjustable toolbar that can be cutomized
5. Ability to set the default size because 640 x 480 is to small.
6. A Tree like explorer has would be very useful.

I will think of many more improvements and add them on.

The point is that Microsoft lacks the imagination and motivation to fix the lame dialog boxes. Office 2003 OSD boxes are nice and the way they should be, it can't be that hard to add this on to Windows XP.

Hell make it an unsupported feature I'll still use it.

I'm sick of hearing all you people complain about how it doesn't have this, or has this that you don't like. Don't fuggen use it if you don't like it.

It's a valid complaint, it's only been 10 years afterall.

PS: What are the Linux dialog boxes like anyways ?

You would think that the dialog boxes would annoy more people but I hardly hear anybody complaining about them.

That's because people aren't annoyed by them. They have gotten accustommed to them. It would be confusing to 95% of the population to change something like that. Like the 3 buttons to minimize, maximize, and close the windows. When I first used a mac, I was confused for a min or so on how to close windows since for macs the buttons are on the left side instead of the right (and I work on computers for a living). We learned in my Software Engineering class that Microsoft spends millions each year researching their UI layout each year, and they can't even change it that much because too many people would get confused.

Totally agreed. It's about time they updated it!

which linux desktop uses office 2003 style dialog boxes?

as for the pictures folder defaulting to thumbnail view... I'd like that DISABLED PERMANENTLY. Even if I set a folder to details view, it will come back as pictures.. or in the dialog boxes, if there's a few pictures, it switches to thumbnail when I don't want it.. argh

Doesn't work that way. A person can complain for more features, since when are they obligated to not use something that they want more out of?

You like getting spoonfed crap after paying for a meal? Nightcrawler is not saying that Windows' as a whole is unusable but that minor inconveniences should have been correct beforehand, instead of lingering around after the version were they were previously seen. If no one complained about anything, and only pretended to be satisfied, there would be no innovation or improvement. When Microsoft touts a new and improved product, I would expect that they would fix the problems that were apparent in the previous version, no matter how simple they might be.

i agree. i HATE the thumbnail dialogue things.

the thing that PISSES me off with windows is when i set a folder to list view, and i then SET ALL FOLDERS TO THIS FOLDER'S SETTINGS, and then i click into another folder and it goes back to the big icon view.

ugh i hate that so much!
