Yeah we've had threads that talk about how we don't upgrade or care about PCs anymore.

But you know what I hate? Trouble shooting PCs. I used to tolerate it as a teen, but now I as a working adult, I utterly loathe it.

I just got a new computer and I had to do a clean format to clean up all the junk. This also meant mindlessly hunting down drivers, realizing XP drivers are hidden in the internet caves as opposed to Vista drivers, finally get the damn install to work only to find out somehow XP decided to assign the primary hard disk letter as D:, not C:. So every time I have to install something, it's a major pain in the ass. I have to install from scratch again.

Once I'm booted to desktop, now I have to reconfigure EVERYTHING the way I like it. Change skins, disable this, that, folder options, install soundcard and set up equalizer again, install all programs like PS.... Man, this is utterly ridiculous.

ARGH. I also DREAD opening up PC cases... I absolutely do.

I Do love computers because I'm meticulous about the way I set them up and I love fancy graphics & my 37" monitor and all HD techy stuff as well as my music. But I hate everything else about it.

Why? That's the fun part. You open up the case and then start looking around the house for the bald cat as the case is clogged with cat hair.

I hate troubleshooting when it's my own PC. During that time my production is at stake and it just really irritates me. When it'is someone else's PC/server (ex: work) then I don't really care. Though I hate troubleshooting stupid software that should not be installed in the first place. Where I work there's like 20 different ticketing programs, 40 different programs to connect to the DMS etc... why not choose an app that works properly and everyone uses it?

I'm the same way. Now that everything just works in Windows and now that Debian is as easy to set up as Windows, all of the fun has been sucked out of computers. :p

Actually it's surprising I don't find too much cat hair in my machines though I do find some. My cat likes to sleep right behind the PC or against the UPS for the extra heat. She used to put her paw in the fan because she found it fun. One day I noticed a big scratch on her nose. She has not got near the fans since then so I can guess what caused the scratch. :p

When I have a PC open I really have to watch her since she wants to go INSIDE the pc. A furry creature and electronics do not mix. :p

Just ghost your settings once you have them the way you like it, but before you get to much pr0n related spyware/malware, then when you reformat, just use the ghost image.

I feel like OP recently...
It goes further with me though...All the way to Servers and Routers!
Having a bit of a cirsis...
And these nagging calls every 5 minutes with question "When it is gonna be ready?" just put a final nail in a coffin :(

In 10 years you'll be typing URLs into the google search field and calling tech support when you can't find the power button

If it takes more than 10 seconds to open a computer case, I charge an additional $15 fee for opening the case.

In high school, I was taking a career program to go into computer networking (it was actually the first four semesters of the CCNA training program). While in the program, as a junior (first two semesters), I went through local and states and got to the National competition for Computer Troubleshooting (mind you, this was a multiple choice test). And I was kind of the go-to guy for hardware troubleshooting whenever I had down time in the class. As time went on, and I went into senior year, I started having a serious lack of interest in the computer field as a career choice. During the summer before senior year, I had been set on going to school for a Computer Engineering/CS&E degree, and getting into the Army for either Military Intelligence or Signal Corps (communications).
Not even half way through senior year, I gave up pretty much. Didn't really do anything in terms of advancing for competitions (went to states in a similar competition but didn't place).
Finished the program but no longer desire anything in the computer field, other than keeping up with technology and maintaining it as a personal interest/hobby. Still enjoy building my own systems and will troubleshoot my own, but that's it. Now looking for a combat branch in the Army, and my degree is in Security & Intelligence. Goal at this point, is if I don't stay in for a career in the Army, I'll use my degree and Officer experience to try and land a security or intelligence related position for government or civilian sector. Career options are multiple at that point: Local Police, FBI, NSA/CIA, security for transportation services, etc etc.
