I used to like the Hulkster, of course that was way back in pre-historic times when events like wrrestling came to the Boston Garden and not the Fleet enema center that stands there now :)

What I don't understand is why he paints that fake 'badass' black facial hair on. Like, dude... you're blonde.

His oily and leathery skin wigs me out too.

Well part of the warm reception to him is the Nostalgia with people remember watching him as a kid or a younger adult. Also to wrestling fans now with him being in the WWF they can promote the "Dream matches." You can have Hogan vs Austin, Rock, HHH, or Vince McMahon himself and you get the Mike Tyson vs Ali, Mcguire/Sosa vs. Babe Ruth events that will never happen but people ask "what if they ever competed" in those respective sports.

Hulk maybe corny, but it was fun to watch him and the Ultimate Warrior wrestle in a tag team match in wrestlemania when I was younger.

hogan sux! bring back the ultimate warrior so he can wipe the floor with his skullet!

lmao @ the ultimate warrior the last time he tried to make a comeback in wcw...LAME (don't get me wrong he was my favorite wrestler a long time ago) but he doesn't have the staying power that hogan does...it's one thing to get cheers...it's another to get the crowd to start chanting Rocky sucks...give him his props his career is almost over :)

<< I don't see how people can be like that. He's going to kick so and so's ass, etc..

I mean.. It's not like they actually break 2x4s over eachothers heads. It's all an act..

How can you "win"? Isn't it predetermined?
>>

Why don't people say "I hope the actor that plays Ross on Friends gets to marry the actress that plays Rachel?" Because the majority of people realize that both are television shows, and thus talk about them as part of it's own fantasy world. Duh.
>>

The difference is that Friends is telling a story, where wrestling is trying to pass itself off as a sporting event. Story telling is great, fake competition is lame.

Well it's obvious that you haven't watched wrestling in the past few years. Basically, wrestling is all about the stories (albeit, a lot of them being simple, and just plain bad). A wrestler becomes popular with fans if he can convey a good story, as well as a good character. Hulk Hogan, for which this thread is initially about, from a pure wrestling standpoint sucks, but people watch him, since he can make people care about his character.

The WWF stopped pretending it was real a long time ago (e.g.; Tough Enough on MTV), but in the wrestling reality world, yes, things are treated as they are real.

Yesterday, on RAW, as the NWO was working him over, I couldn't help but think, "Man, if they ripped off his pants right now, only to reveal the yellow shorts, HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE??"

Alas, I must simply wait in anticipation for a comeback that may never occur...

I can't believe that people are actually arguing about this. It's like people at a Trekkie convention arguing that Picard could beat up Kirk or vice versa. Get over it, people.

Nahhh... it's not that bad....;)

Seriously though, you can really tell the people who have just picked up watching wrestling in the last couple years... "ock rules" or "CSA is the shyte"... but it's like anything else, you have to respect the history and where some of these guys are coming from.. Did Mick Foley ever suck?? That's debatable, but even casual observers might say he was fun to watch, simply because of all the crazy things he did during his career. Watching Hogan now, while sometimes funny, sometimes sad... is no worse than watching Jordan try and soothe his own ego, or Canseco try and catch a flyball... you just have to respect the man himself, not necessarily his character. At 50, I hope I'm able to throw myself off tables and such... :D

I think Hogan's IN RING skill is underrated. Of course he's no Crispin Wah (phonetic :)) or Jericho in the ring, and in a lot of his TV matches, he goes at a little slower pace, however:

1. His moves ARE fun to watch, the back rake is my favorite, the big boot and leg drop are always a mark out moment, he can do most of the power moves too.

2. He can step it up a notch for the big matches. His match vs the Rock was very well executed.

If you look at his matches, really, his ring ability is about the same as the almost crippled Stone Cold, he's comparable to The Undertaker, however noone ever rips on their ring skill.

I never like Hogan. I never "marked out" on Hogan. I was not 8 years old so he didn't appeal to me. I don't know why people would say he has charisma or style. He's boring.

Mick Foley always had style. He was entertaining. Stone Cold has style and is very entertaining. I mark out on SC. They are funny and very entertaining.

Rick Flair was entertaining, too. Arn Anderson was entertaining. That's just me.

BTW, where's Big Poppa Pump? He's got some pathetic mic skills but that's funny to watch.

Y'know, thinking back to my childhood days, I don't even know how big a Hulk fan I was. My vague recollections of childhood include me emulating Macho Man and jumping off my heater onto my pillow on the bed with the elbow smash (and breaking the bed after months of doing this...) Everyone back then was an Ultimate Warrior fan. Mr. Perfect and Brutus Beefcake for whatever reasons were popular with me as well. I mean, I know I liked Hogan, but I don't recall emulating him too much. Ah well, whachu gonna do...

first off, you must have been one strange little 8 year old boy. Secondly, the fact that you say "I don't know why..." basically makes you look kinda stupid. There's a lot of stuff that I can't stand, however I can understand why some people would like it.

I like Big Papa Pump too, and his mic skills are actually pretty good, and he oozes charisma. Goldberg is a guy with no mic skills.

actually, Hogan won the first match, the second match Andre "won" on Saturday Night's Main event because of a crooked ref, and the third time (Wrestlemania 4) was a double DQ.

Anyone see that big psychotic dude that ran into the rain and creamed the Hurricane and Mighty Molly on Smackdown? That dude is freakin' huge. Are they trying to pull a Goldberg with this guy?
