How about no pointy hats or robes for bishops who have sex with young boys? That seems oddly appropriate and more relevant given the behavior of the Catholic church lately. Oh, and for nuns who rape or abuse their deaf students, God wants a divorce.

Bishop Issues Strong Anti-Abortion Edict

DENVER ? Catholics (search) who vote for politicians in favor of abortion rights, stem-cell research, euthanasia or gay marriage may not receive Communion until they recant and repent in the confessional, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Colorado Springs said.

Bishop Michael Sheridan's (search) pronouncement was the strongest yet from a U.S. bishop in the debate over how faith should influence Catholics in this election year.

The discussion of withholding Holy Communion had previously been limited to politicians themselves.

Sheridan made his remarks in a May 1 pastoral letter published in the diocese's newspaper. He said he singled out abortion, stem-cell research (search), euthanasia and gay marriage for criticism because they are "intrinsically evil."

The letter was sent to each parish in the diocese, including 125,000 Catholics in 10 counties.

Formal Vatican pronouncements last year specified Catholic politicians' duty to uphold church teaching as they set policy on matters such as abortion and preventing the legalization of same-sex unions.

Last month, Cardinal Francis Arinze said a Catholic politician who supports abortion rights "is not fit" to receive the Eucharist. The debate was spurred by Catholic presidential candidate John Kerry's support of abortion rights.

Sheridan said some Catholics have challenged him to extend his list of positions out of step with church teaching to include the death penalty or the war with Iraq. But Sheridan said he doesn't believe those matters carry the same weight.

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, a Catholic, criticized Sheridan's letter.

"I just think this is a tragic direction for the bishop to take," Ritter said. "My great fear is that it will drive Catholics away from the church, Catholics who abide by the church teaching in everything they do but look at candidates and vote on a range of issues."

And like you are so perfect and free from sin yourself? Don't judge unless you are sinless yourself.

Well put, Mr. Miller.

Is anyone passing judgement on pro-abortion Republicans like Guliana or Pataki?

Is an unborn a person? If so, "Do not kill".
Catholics believe it is a person, it has a soul.
Since an unborn is a person, it should not be killed.

Are these the same people who protected a torturer from Argentina and put him as a priest in Chile, under a fake name? Nuh. That cannot be...

"Happy shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock!"
..........Psalms 137:9

"Samar'ia shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword, their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open."
..........Hosea 13:16

"...Men'ahem sacked Tappuah and all who were in it and its territory from Tirzah on; because they did not open it to him, therefore he sacked it, and ripped up all the women in it who were with child."
..........2 Kings 15:16

"Behold the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger...Whoever is found will be thrust through and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes, their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished."
..........Isaiah 13:9, 13:15

"I will strew your flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with your carcass. I will drench the land even to the mountains with your flowing blood..."
..........Ezekiel 32:5

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.
..........Jeremiah 13:14

Life is precious to God? Yeah, right. Anyway, this is the Old Testament....Jewish Law....so we must close our eyes and forget about that half of the Bible. Right?

You know, by that Bishop's thinking, just about all of South America is condemned to a long wait in Pergatory at best. :)

And then there is East L.A. Sheezh, they'd be packing 'em in.

Anyway, I thought Christians were imperfect? They will sin. I'm sure the Holy Father is not about to start telling people how to vote. Why should the Bishops wander into that fray?

If Catholics want to change the hearts and minds of the people about abortions and gay marriage for starters, then get out there on the street and change minds, principally by leading by example, kindness, and compassionate logic.

Furthermore, many would say that in matters of sex, the Catholic Church might be better off singing sotto voce. If the Bishops were as concerned about pedophiles as they seem to be about everyone else's sex life maybe we wouldn't have the dwindling numbers of American priests and Catholics.

Sheezh...fools are fools even if they dress funny.

Great way to take quotes out of their context and use them for your argument.

If you had any sort of education you would realize those are from the Old Testament, and therefore do not apply to any of us during this day and age.

Here we go again. I think the church is making a mistake here. They are only going to alienate more of their members. Sure, being Catholic requires a lot in terms of belief and deed, but voting isn't one of them. That is one thing Rome doesn't understand too well. Being raised in America, we believe that public policy and personal moral decisions are mutually exclusive for the most part. Seperation of church and state, anyone? Seriously, the church is making a big mistake if they think they will influence elections here in the states.

The bible, quran, vedas, kabala etc. are all subjective, humanistic interpretations of the Universal. They may contain wisdom, beauty, history, but you should never forget that interpretations involve the thoughts/prejudices of the interpreter just as much as that which is being viewed/felt.

bleeding Christ, you are a moron. Can't you read? I specifically mentioned that these are quotes from the Old Testament (AKA JEWISH LAW).

Besides, how do you take murder and bloodshead out of context? The question was asking where in the bible is killing of babies good (or bad)....not which book. When I get back home, I will continue w/ this discussion.
