THIS is why when ever I do a format/re-install I install the basic programs I love,

Winrar
CuteFTP
Mirc
Nero Burning Rom
Alcohol 120%
Azureus
Ad-aware
AVG anti-virus
Spybot S&D
CDex
Adobe Photoshop
Picture Publisher
MS Publisher
MS Word
SnagIT
Quicken
ALL Audio/Video Codecs
TMPGEnc
Bitpim
GrabIT
WinDVD
IE Privacy Keeper
CDdisplay
Mozilla Firefox
Norton Ghost 2003

Then I "Ghost" that sum-ma-ma-b!tch onto a DVD and VIOLA if I ever have to re-install or format. instead of spending 6-8 hours installing everything, I spend 30 minutes and get a fresh install.

"I LOVE NORTON GHOST!!!!!!!!"

I've done that before too. was looking for a keygen to a game I lost my cd key to... It's rough, it automatically created pr0n folders and shortcuts on my desktop and as soon as I deleted them it created them again. I finally got rid of all of (couldn't format/reinstall, I had too much stuff I wanted to keep and I don't have an extra HDD or DVD burner), after about 3 months of messing with it.

I thought you just couldn't install it in Safe Mode, but once installed and updated, you could still run it.

because he is like me and is laughing at you for downloading stuff and paying the price. You did it and got what you deserved.

Deal with it.

Better yet, beat your computer to pieces with a large hammer. That should fix the problem.

if he's laughing, why did he try to help?

I fixed the problem, at least from what I can tell.

am I the only one that doesn't like Microsoft's antispyware? The scanning works fine but it has too many little annoyances with it. For instance, I have the Hide Icon in system tray checked but when the program scans every night the stupid icon shows up again.

ok mame, you might be missing the obvious. try scanning with an AV. I've had things that norton categorized as Adware that MS antispyware and ad-aware both would not pick up (winlog0n.exe). Norton picked it up and cleaned it out.

I ran into this same bit of spyware on 2 of the systems that came into the shop where I work. The executable files didn't show up at all in the file list of the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory in normal mode, but they were there after booting into safe mode (though I had to tell Windows to display hidden files, I believe). Was able to delete the executable files from within safe mode, and also get rid of the registry entry that kept coming back. That seemed to take care of the problem on both of those systems.

I ran into the same problem, but not from downloading. I was just surfing links from MSN search, and WHAMMO I get hit with spyware city. I tried every tool known to man, and every manual removal instruction I could find, but to no avail :( I had to reformat.

The (MS Anti Spyware) icon looks like some worm they chopped a piece off of. You would think they could be more creative than that!

I got the same damn spyware package about 3 weeks ago. I downloaded what I thought was crack to some software. Yeah I probably deserved it.

Anyways I took the easy way out and fdisk. It wasn't so bad, I have 6 different partitions with my pictures, music, movies, and My Documents in them.

It had been 3 years since I did a format and my computer has run a whole lot smoother since I did it.
