God damn XP SP3 hit or miss...desktop glitch?

I build PCs and this is the 4th time in 25 days where I've had to reinstall Windows XP SP3 because of a glitch. The glitch = when I right click anywhere on the desktop, the computer freezes and I get this error - " Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close ". Followed by a " DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close ".

WTF is going on?

That could well be a problem with some hardware. Do all the system have same specs? Just try a completely different hardware for a system, install windows xp on it and see if the problem occurs.

Thats means its the hardware that's corrupt. Change one piece of hardware at a time and see if the problem exists.

That would help you figure out the corrupt hardware.

DrWatson is a usermode / userland error. Ignore anything about hardware in this thread if you can boot into safemode and the problem does not repro.

You can give the dumpfile to Microsoft and they'll debug it for you for about $250, or you can uninstall anything from the helper menu that pops up when you right-click, and see if that causes the problem to go away. That includes Divx, which had a problem a while back (in Sp2 days).

If you'll run mpsreports and send me the resulting cab file I can look at it for likely suspects.

Again, Dr. Watson is a *USERLAND* error. That means it's most likely not (hardware) drivers.

It's most likely an Explorer (Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer) error, since it repros when you right-click. Simply remove all the Windows Explorer add-ins that you've got and that should resolve the issue.
