i built 3 pc's for few friends all had CM Hyper 212, all on AMD processor. The 2 PC with Athlon X4 temps are 26c-30c at about 3.2G (forgot what the voltage was). The Callisto Dual core 3.2 stock temps at 16c-18c. If I enable the dual core to quad core, temps goes up to 35c-36c with 1.6V. Is not the sexiest cooler, but you can't beat the price and performance.

How bad is silenx? I just need something cheap to last me for the next 3 months.

dunno on that particular heatsink, but i avoid silenX like the plague because of their shitty fans.

read the specs on their fans, and then read how they actually do under testing at silentpcreview. it's pathetic. they'll claim some fan runs at 1200 rpm and only produces 5 db.... it's pure lies.

Isn't AMD's max temp for the 945 70C?

Edit:
http://products.amd.com/pages/desktopcpudetail.aspx?id=619

Granted that is the C3 stepping listed? If it is hitting 80C then it definitely is too hot.

you also gotta realize that the thermal probe on the processor isn't going to output a truly exact reading. those things are never calibrated, and only exist to underclock the processor in the case of overheating.

the stock fan the CPU comes with is adequate for running the CPU at stock voltages and stock frequencies at max load 24/7 assuming adequate air-flow within the case. just...believe that. if it isn't, then you have a dud.

THE BEST CHEAP FAN!
And im talking the Honda Civic of Fans.. the ones which are dirt cheap, but will give you the happiest smile type of fan...

http://www.jab-tech.com/YATE-LOON-120mm-Case-Fan-D12SH-12-High-Speed-pr-3771.html

The all mighty Yate Loon!

I seriously challange ANYONE in this entire forum to show me a better fan at even 2x that price.

You wont find it.. because a Yate is basically a rebranded NEXUS which are 15 dollar fans normally. ;)

http://www.jab-tech.com/Nexus-120mm...nd-white-with-Silicon-Fan-mounts-pr-3857.html

You'd think Nexus would at least change the model number so we wouldnt figure out they were yates. :whiste:

i've had yate-loons. and the quality control was all over the place.

i generally stick to scythe slip-streams... i wish i had gotten a stock of the gentle-typhoons when they were relatively cheap.;

lol.... u know thats because every vendor couldnt decide on which model inside that series to get.

So they decided playing lottery in the versions to see which ones were the best.

I think most vendors have figured it out now...

And at under 4 dollars a pop, if 1 dies, u get another one, and u still win.

What CPU do you have? I've noticed that AMD is shipping smaller and smaller heatsinks with their low/mid end CPU's - just enough that they can get away with. They've gone from heatsinks about 1-2" tall of aluminum like this:

http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=...page=1&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=97&ty=64

To flimsier small heatsinks like this:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Athlon_II_X2_240/images/athlon_x2_240_contents.jpg
-------

To answer your question, no, not all AMD heatsinks are like that. Their heatsinks built for 90W and 120/130W CPU's are excellent. Do a search for "AMD heatpipe cooler".

There's the 2-heatpipe cooler that is pretty quiet and much more effective than non-heatpipe AMD coolers:

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Original-He...013?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c17f6cabd

And the excellent copper base heatpipe heatsink like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Socket-AM3-...085?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1aa6c035

------

If the stock heatsink that came with your heatsink is a piece of junk, get one of these better ones. They're quieter, cooler, and good quality. What's even better, they're small, super easy to install and remove, and work great for SFF cases as well as mid/mini towers.

I really want the hyper 212. But I'll be getting rid of this PC in a few months.\

The Hyper 212+ has mounting for all the current sockets, so when getting rid of this system you can toss the original back on there and keep the 212+ for the next build.

Fairly decent around 6 years ago. Now? Meh.

Two heatpipes. All else being equal, the number of heatpipes determines how much heat the unit can take away from the CPU.

They're not lying. Their fans really do produce a measurable 5 decibels... at 3 meters. :whiste:

Wait the SilenX was actually a good fan?

Good Buy or Bad Buy?

Ack EDIT...

SilentX is crap.

In all honesty, i dont trust there company, and its gonna take a while for me to trust them again.

In looking for fans which goes on sinks... look at the last graph.
Technically u want the most air pressure though the sink.
But with more pressure comes a lot more noise:

Honestly I haven't found the stock AMD sinks to be that bad. I had my doubts about the smaller, flimsier looking sink that came with the most recent dual core I used in a build, but it was surprisingly very quiet even under load. I think that is partly because the CPU itself uses little power and doesn't kick out that much heat.

Seems to me the stock AMD coolers now are quieter in general than they were say 3 years ago. Hey, at least they aren't like the screamers from the old Athlon XP days :p
