New scenery doesn't take away your problems. Trust me my friend.
As for the OP, my goal is to never stop learning and never stand still.
As for this quote from your post... "I realized that life sucks and reaching those goals is sometimes impossible or really difficult so why bother?"
Because you can.
Impossible is a word you're using to justify not putting yourself outside your comfort zone. Never let anyone tell you what is or isn't possible to achieve. If you want it, go fucking get it.. it really is as simple as that and only YOU can make it happen. If I had to count how many times I've been told by people that what I am striving for is impossible or made to feel stupid for doing so, I would lose track very quickly. There is no greater feeling than leaving fools like that behind. Is life really hard at times? Sure as hell it is. But you have two choices with how you spend the time in your life.... you can make the most of it and strive for some enjoyment, or you can feel miserable and worthless. If you're here anyway, why not pick the path where you don't feel like shit every day?
1.) Wife and kids (added bonus: they're healthy) - check
2.) House w/no mortgage - check
3.) Executive before age 31 (the age my father became one) - check
4.) Spend a year in another country - check
5.) Complete my first sprint Triathlon - check
6.) Complete my first Olympic Triathlon - training for April
7.) Finish #1 in my age group in either a sprint or Olympic Triathlon - lofty
8.) Retire at age 50 - on track
-Gain ten years of experience in a field that utilizes my abilities so I can gain an entry level job in said field.
-Become as pretty on the outside as I feel on the inside.
-Acquire a wondrous horse I can ride the country side with; I will name him Scruffy.
-Learn to get people to try to do things they don't always want to do because god damnit, I'm right and they're wrong. They just don't know it yet.
- Get a PhD/doctorate in 5 years
- Learn Hindi, Mandarin, Portuguese (both Portugal/Brazilian) and Spanish
- Get married
- Own a copywriting business earning big bucks
- Become a senior VP and/or CEO of a Global Fortune 500 in 10/15 years.
- Own flats/apartments in London, NYC, and Mumbai in 10 years
My goal right now is to figure out just what it is I want to do with my life. Since the new year I've been very depressed and unable to focus on much of anything, and my job performance suffered quite a bit. I was recently let go very recently because of that, and now I'm using my time to re-evaluate my priorities and work on some things with a therapist. I'm planning on making some changes in the next two years (moving to California/the Pacific Northwest like I've always wanted) so I'm hoping that a little adventure and some help from a professional will help me figure out just what the hell it is that I want to do with my life.
OK... now it's become a typical ATOT brag thread. All it needs is a mention of a $200K+ salary and a BMW M3. Oh... I think that we got both of those as well.![]()
Be careful when requesting promotions in IT... once you get high enough, you'll spend most of your time in meetings with management. Those meetings were painful for me, as the management where I worked at the time seemed to have no clue long it took or how much it would cost to make software and hardware changes. They would ask for major functionality changes on a Monday, and expect them to be tested and finished by the next Friday. That's AFTER we gave them 2 month estimates on the work.
Sounds like your typical upper management. Careless, inconsiderate and completely dis attached from reality.
