It's coming time to upgrade my Pearl, since I've been using it for over a year in a gimped state. The internal speaker went out on it long ago, so everytime I talk on the phone, I have to put it on speakerphone and just put the volume as low as it'll go. I've been fine with it, but a friend at work just picked up a new phone, so now, obviously, I'm wildly obsessed with getting a new one, too.
I'll be upgrading both mine and the wife's phone, most likely on Wirefly since that's where we originally ordered from 2 years ago, and their prices still seem to be the cheapest. Plus, they'll actually upgrade phones on a family plan, which seems to be hard to find on those kinds of websites from what I've found.
The two phones I'm looking at right now is the brand new Quickfire, or the LG Vu. Both have their pluses and minuses.
The Quickfire is too new and I don't know much about it. However, initial reports seem like the touch screen is very, very iffy on the edges of the screen, making it pretty hard to get ahold of scroll bars and such. But I love the slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Plus, the interface looks simple and easy enough to use. I like the phone aesthetics. Wirefly has it for $30 (no rebates).
Then there's the LG Vu. I like the touch screen and overall aesthetics. However, I'm not sure if I'll like the touch QWERTY keyboard. I don't text a whole hell of a lot, but I do enough to be concerned about it. I also don't like what I hear about not being able to use the phone while it's charging, which seems like such a trivial thing to fuck up on. I'm also concerned that a possible successor to this phone will be along soon since it's been out for a while. Wirefly has it for free (no rebates).
Ideally, I'd like to get a Bold (beautiful screen) or an HTC Fuze, but I simply cannot justify spending that much on a phone that won't see even have the use that a smartphone should command.
So, thoughts?
EDIT: After more thought, I don't think I'm going to get either of these, and start looking at something like a Pantech Matrix or something.
