So I had a pretty crummy day @ work.
I was pretty pissed. I won't go into details. Just know that I was a bit frustrated.

So I was headed to the post office to buy some packing envelop for something I just sold on ebay.

The lady (approx 50 yrs old? Didn't look that old. almost mid aged w/ some white hairs) over the counter greeted me with a smile, and I felt a bit better, and smiled back.

Anyways, I didn't have cash with me today, and I just wanted to buy a $0.80 package envelop. The post office's card machine was broken too. goddamnphokking...I didn't have any change, so the lady said (with her grandma-ish kindness) "ohh, do not worry, I have 80 cents." She opens her purse, busts out 80 cents, and pays for me.

This was a very very small gesture of kindness, but it turned my day around. After I thanked her profusedly, she did her usual customer-relations/blah/trained response of "Have a nice day."

But, the difference was, that the way she said it was actually very very genuine. It didn't sound half-assed nor robotic. She did it w/ a nice smile.

Such small gestures made me feel worlds better.

I smiled at people on the way out, and opened the door for a bunch coming in/out during the busy hour of the local post office. "your welcome," I said, after I heard the "thank yous."

(not that i'm saying i don't normally hold the door for people right behind me, just that sometimes, when you're frustrated, you really don't feel like giving out a small helping hand).

So ya, do something nice to some stranger. You may turn his day around.

Now do like I tell everyone that I do a favor for.....and remember the favor that was brought to you, the next time you see someone in need. It's amazing to me, when I do favors for people, and they ask me what I owe them........and I tell them, "Nothing. Just do a favor for someone in need, sometime in the future, like I did for you today". I know it's not going to get me to a better place after my life is over, but hopefully it will bring someone else to a better place while they're here on this world! :)

It is always nice when someone tells you have a nice day and they are serious about it. The worst is when a company randomly starts making their employees greet people. A great example is clothing stores, walk into a bunch of them at your local mall and you'll see every single one of their teen employees will say hello and if they can help you. Drives me crazy... maybe I'm just picky.

I was hoping this would be a story that lead to hooking up with a smoking hot twenty-something.

I was out to lunch with my grandma the day my grandpa was hospitalized with cancer. She really feel like eating and didn't eat much of her food. The server was concerned and asked "Did you not like your food ma'am?" She replied that it was fine and that she didn't feel like eating. When the waiter asked why she told him that she just found out her husband had a brain tumor.

He neded up comming back later and telling us that lunch was on him and that he hoped that everything turned out well. We still tried to pay him and tip him but he flat out refused any money from us. It really made a world of difference to me and especially to my grandma.

Great to hear other stories of this as well!

Now you should take your own advice and send her a thank you letter. Also send a commendation on her behalf to her boss. She sounds like a very nice person... someone I have never met at the Post Office.

Shens! People suck!

j/k

I do this all the time and people still think I'm an asshole overall. Which I am, because I have no filter between what I think and what I say to people....and sometimes, the truth hurts :(
