More than 3 years on from Katrina, people were still waiting to get their legally-owned weapons back after confiscation. This is insane. Whatever your politics, it's just common sense to respect the laws on the books.

"Both sides also are asking U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier to sign off on the pact and issue a permanent injunction barring the city from seizing lawfully possessed firearms. Barbier didn't immediately rule on the agreement, which doesn't involve a monetary award."

Well, 3 years is better than they are doing in the UK...with sticks.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...-offensive-weapon.html

Police took a 78 year old guy's walking stick away because they thought it could be an offensive weapon. Gave him a receipt for it, then when he went to claim it, couldn't find it.

Can't have old codgers shuffling around with such deadly devices.

Or the report earlier of a guy getting shot because he wore an Obama shirt. And the press reports that he was shot with a gas-powered ball bearing pistol.

This line is pricless:
In response, the city argued that federal law doesn't apply to the plaintiffs' claims against city officials "because the right to keep and bear arms has never been recognized as a fundamental individual right."

Huh? Perhaps take a look at the US Constitution, 2nd amendment. Then, take a look at the supreme court ruling, District of Columbia vs Heller.

Supreme court decided otherwise...

I don't get it - why are they confiscating shit from people that have everything else packed in their car, on the way out of the city. How about going after the wanna-be gangsters and looters that were using unregistered guns?
