ESPNews just confirmed this.... 3:30 PM news conference, ESPNews will likely have it.

WOO! WOO! WOO! WOO! WOO!

I was hoping to hear some sort of confirmation.

FWIW, I just heard the same thing on Atlanta sports radio.

3:30PM News conference
Marty Fired
Mariucci Hired
$12 million over four years

From the Freep:

Possible replacements include former Minnesota coach Dennis Green and former San Francisco coach Steve Mariucci, a Michigan native.

So it's not Mariucci for sure yet.

Congratulations to Mariucci. The 49'ers will see that they blamed the wrong person for their troubles when Mariucci turns around the Detroit franchise in a few years.

Rut-roh.. From ESPN's website:

Despite a radio station report that Steve Mariucci would be the next Lions coach, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports that sources close to Mariucci say he has not been contacted by the Lions about coaching in Detroit next season.

I don't like that.

I know they are gonna fire moronweg officially at 3:30 but I dont think they have Marriuci lined up yet. Dont forget he gets paid next year whether he coaches or not, and unless the lions pay him a lot more (they prolly will) it may not be worth it for him. Regardless I hope that they do hire him, its definitely a good move, but I hate to get optimistic about the lions when everything thats going around are just rumors. (I heard it on the radio too, Jim Rome show)
