Right now I have 2x2gb sticks which I am happy with. I also have my old memory that is 2x1gb that I just have laying around. I thought maybe I could stick the remaining two sticks in for a total of 6gb. Obv this will fill all 4 slot son my mobo, and I am concerned that it will mess up my OC and also cause some errors in booting. Will it matter that I have 2 dif kits on the same board? Or is this just a bad idea?

It can cause problems. Typically you can't push an overclock as far with all four slots populated. Stick them in and see what you get. If you've already have the ram there's little harm in trying. Write down your key bios settings if you don't have the ability to back them up.

It can cause problems, but never has for me. I've had 4x1gb 1066 for awhile now, and it hasn't caused any problems with two P45 boards and a P965 board. I didn't have to bump the vDIMM or NB voltage and it hasn't seemed to affect my OCs, even when I took my e7200 to 4gHz

Yeah it seems like its maybe dependent on the situation. I think I am mostly just concerned because its going 2gb,2gb,1gb,1gb for my DIMM slots and not uniform the whole time.

Well, there isn't too much upside as you won't really see a performance difference with 2 more gbs of ram so I'm not sure you really stand to gain anything...

Depending on what he does, it might make a difference.

Anyway, I'd say throw them in and see what happens. Maybe bump your MCH voltage up a notch. Remember to set the speed and timings and backup like ochadd said.

As everyone said there?s a chance with things not working. I've been using 4 sticks of ram for a while, and the biggest problem for me was usually the BIOS stuffing up memory timings due to different SPD default settings on the mem sticks.

My current board (in sig) refused to works with mem anywhere above 667MHz with 4 sticks. After manually setting all (I mean all of them not just the x-x-x-xx ones) the timings, managed to even overclock the RAM past 800MHz a bit.
So I?d recommend before you plug them in, check the timings of both sets and set the lower of the two in bios. When its stable with your overclock, the you can start tweaking.
