DETROIT (WWJ) – According to a new report, 47 percent of Detroiters are ”functionally illiterate.” The alarming new statistics were released by the Detroit Regional Workforce Fund on Wednesday.

WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with the Fund’s Director, Karen Tyler-Ruiz, who explained exactly what this means.

“Not able to fill out basic forms, for getting a job — those types of basic everyday (things). Reading a prescription; what’s on the bottle, how many you should take… just your basic everyday tasks,” she said.

“I don’t really know how they get by, but they do. Are they getting by well? Well, that’s another question,” Tyler-Ruiz said.

Shouldn't come as any real suprise... They're all that's left. When a population runs the money goes first, then the intellect, then the ambition, then the work ethic...

And what's left over is... well... leftovers.

bingo... plus when the city is comprised of like 10,000 people 47% isn't hard to fathom...

As far as I can tell, all the homeless people can spell pretty well on their signs.

It really depends on how the are defining "Detroiters". If you are talking about just the city of Detroit, then you are 100% right. If you are talking about the Detroit Metro area, then you are wrong.

Yes, it's just fine. Our homes aren't worth anything. Restaurants are packed on weekends. There's still rush hour in the morning and in the afternoon.

Detroit is a hell hole. The misery has spread to the surrounding communities where they abut the city. You get outside of that area and the further out you go the better it gets. Then you hit Flint...which, is basically the same scenario.

This what happens when you cloak yourself in the victims mentality, when you glorify a counter culture where lawlessness and a lack education is considered preferable.

I understand the notion of circling the wagons when a group feels that those outside of their inner circle have no concern over their well being, but at some time the leaders of the group must realize that the best thing for the group is to assimilate into the notions of the greater society which promote striving for excellence and following the laws of the land. However, the leaders of Detroit have been nothing but corrupt and have been feeding on those they are supposed to be representing all the while maintaining their leadership by accusing those outside of Detroit for causing its demise.

It might reverse if people would stop being pussies and finally support the idea of a police state. If every shitbag were on death row, wealthy people would feel safe in the city and would not be inclined to move away just for the sake of raising a family.

Those are symptoms not causes. The collapse of the American auto industry is the cause.

Now stay the hell out of my state.

They should hire a team of bulldozers and starting at 8 mile/Telegraph, move southeast, lower the blade until they reach the river. Nothing good has ever come out of that place it should just return to farmland.

I go to Tiger Stadium about once or twice a year. There are small "upscale" areas in Detroit, the rest literally looks like Gotham City. It's a testimonial of what happens when things like race and bribes are used to elect officials instead of merits.

Here's a big reason Detroit looks the way it does:
