go back to CRT?

I have a 19 inch LCD with 25ms response time, the display is very nice with DVI. i get ghosting in some games like CoD but not in others (like prince of persia), the ghosting isnt terrible but still noticable. would i be better off just selling it and getting a 19 inch CRT???

also, am i assured that there will be no ghosting on the CRT regardless of brand as long as it is a new model?

If ghosting bothers you enough I would get a CRT. I love my 2001FP LCD but I also love my G520P CRT. Have you considered going dual monitors and using CRT for games and LCD for general use?

Well I'm sure you could easily sell that LCD for what you paid or maybe even make money and that HP CRT also. Just get a nice 19 inch CRT. I recommend getting Mitsu 930 from Dell when they run those stackable coupon deals for around $270. Good CRT is still fine for general use and unbeatable for games. Sounds like ghosting bothers you enough.

Sell your LCD and for the money you get for it you'll probably be able to afford a nice 21" CRT that can do 2048 x 1536 @ 85 Hz.

Anyone have any experience with the NEC 2141SB-BK? Link.

My patience waiting for the NF3-250, NV40/PVR5 and SoundStorm has expired and I am about ready to order one of those monitors along with a 5900, 2500XP, another 512MB RAM, a 120GB HD, a new mouse and an Audigy2(already picked up some Sennheiser HD 570Pros so I need a good soundcard, still hate the idea of using CL but these sound way too good to use on a crappy sound card).

So anyone know if this monitor is as good as it sounds? Also- BFG- You are using an Explorer mouse right? How does it stand up for gaming particularly quick spins? I've been debating on the MX500 and Explorer 3.0a, it looks like the Explorer 3.0a is a little bit bigger which I like but how quick is it?

i WILL never buy another 21 CRT, just dont have the real estate, i'm trying to get rid of the HP1110

Lot of people consider the NEC 2141 the best CRT under $1000. It's usually that monitor or Sony G520. The NEC has better spec and can do 1600x1200 @ 100 and 2048x1536 @ 85. I had hard time choosing between that monitor and my G520P but decided to go with Sony because of brand name and the fact Newegg had it for $582 shipped to me. If you want personal user opinion, visit the display forum at Hardforum.com. Many users there have that Nec 2141 and most seem to love it.

If you are going to purchase the NEC 2141, I recommend buying it from Dell. They often run specials with stackable coupons and you can usually pick that monitor up over there for low $500 shipped when they do. The great thing about buying from Dell is that they have 100% satisfaction guarantee and you can return it within 30 days for full refund for any reason without any restocking fee. They will also overnight you a new monitor if you're not happy with the one you received. They will also pick up all shipping tabs. Dell is great for monitors.

I don't think 19" will save much more space than a 21" crt.
I think you should try a different LCD. I recommend the 17" NEC 1760NX. I saw one at best buy with a flat glass over it. The contrast, clarity, and brightness is as good as a CRT, while retaining the sharpness of an LCD. I can't see any ghosting either. I'm personally a CRT lover, I own a 21" IBM P275, 21" Dell P1110, and owned a 21" Hitachi CM802. I would personally go with CRT anyday, but the NEC is a great CRT alternative to those who want to save space.

You might just want to try getting a better LCD. I went from using a Mitsubishi 2040u 21" CRT (and to a somewhat lesser extant a 21" Sony G520P CRT) to a 19" Samsung 192t LCD. I much prefer the LCD, and I game frequently. While those 21" CRTs are very nice (some of the niciest CRTs I have used) they LCD is better 🙂

Somebody else might find totally opposite. Displays are highly subjective. Let's not get into CRT vs LCD war.

Well, thats kinda what his question was about though...I have used both high end CRTs and LCDs and prefer LCDs. Most people I know do as well. The majority of people I know that prefer CRTs over LCDs have either not used a nice one or don't have the budget for one. Certainly not all, just most I have talked to or met that preferred CRT to LCD. Since he was asking about LCDs vs. CRTs I figured it was ok to mention my experience with both.

Hello all!

I currently own a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB-BK 22" CRT. I'd like to drop a few comments by you all.

First, when it is hooked up to my ATi AIW R9700 Pro with the DVI>VGA adapter, when running 1600x1200@85Hz, I get a severe amount of flickering or some would call it 'waving lines' on the screen. It is not because of any speakers or any other electronic interference outside of the computer. I would try to record this on camera, but I don't have one.

I think this is a bug in the ATi cards because my friend who also has a NEC 22"...I don't remember the model number, but it is about 2 years old. He went from a Matrox G450 TV to the ATi AIW R8500 and he noticed the lines right away as well. His resolution for this is to run 1920x1440@85Hz. Personally, I run 1600x1200@75Hz. The monitor does not flicker then.

I purchased a Matrox G550 and tested out my monitor on this card using the VGA port and there was no such problem that I noticed. NOW, what I am wondering is there is a problem with ATi converting the signals with the supplied DVI>VGA converter or if it is NEC/Mitsubishi related. I do not have another professional CRT to test my theories with, but I think it's an ATi issue simply because I did not experience the problems with the Matrox and nor did my friend.

Since Matrox uses DVI>VGA converters with their Parhelia cards, I would find it hard to believe that I would experience such flickering on that card.

Now, my vision has gotten horribly bad lately. I was once a CRT man, then tried a Samsung 191T, but was dissatisfied with the ghosting because I was a gamer. Now, I am not a PC gamer anymore (resorted to my PS2 and Xbox), and am selling my 22" Mitsubishi for a NEC NEC 1760NX-BK-1 17" LCD.

If anyone would like me to try any tests or something to confirm any theories, LMK. 🙂

It's excellent - the best mouse I've ever used. I have the original and it's still going strong after three years of use. Some people complained about tracking problems in the original but I've never had a single problem with it.

but how quick is it?
The newer one is supposed to be even better than the original at tracking. But like I said, I don't have any problems with mine.

I've been debating on the MX500 and Explorer 3.0a, it looks like the Explorer 3.0a is a little bit bigger which I like but how quick is it?

I would just like to add that the new Logitech MX 510 should be available in the near future which has an improved sensor for even better and faster tracking that the current MX 500 model.
