If you take a shower, flush the toilet and cook just one meal you've spent over a dime. Please do tell though.

Can't be done. I have gone a complete week without spending any cash, but just getting up is costing you something.

I used to be not able to spend a dime way more than 5 days when I was married.

Impossible because I have to buy food at work and school and bringing food is not an option.

The trick is to keep as little cash in your wallet as possible. I take $20 or even $40 out at the ATM at most each time. It lasts me for weeks. The few times I did have a lot more than that... I surely spent it faster since the thought goes a little something like, "Hey look at that... I have enough, I can afford $4 on a good iced capuccino." That stuff gets you in trouble. I think the most I'd spend in 5 days could be $15... maybe $10. Not a dime? Not possible unless you're missing some meals.

Or just have better self-control.

I normally get cash via debit charge "cash back" as that is fee-free for me.

I get charged $1.50 when I use an ATM. So when I have to use an ATM, I pull out alot to make up for the fee.

Cheap-a$$ ramen noodles come close... but then you're using hot-pot electricity.

Well there's a difference between dirt poor and balancing a budget. I think what I do is plenty self-control... and I'm not even on a budget... I just don't like to spend $5-$10 on fast food... instead I spend $3.24 on 3 items at Wendy's drive-thru, etc. My fiance and I do go out for the occasional chain-restaurant dinner and spend $30 on that one night. It all balances out and all I can save any other time helps.

I tend to spend more when I tell myself that I have to stop spending. Seems that there are suddenly more stuff to buy.

I never spend dimes. They go in my ashtray and my wife puts them in a sparklets jug we like to call "the retirement account";)
