Interesting, I'll look forward to testing. Lower boost frequency than the regular 5600X so you might think lower scores in productivity similar to 5800X vs 5800X3D, but according to this it's a 105W part vs 65W.

$230 will make it a pretty good gaming upgrade if you're still rocking a 3600 and don't want a full platform update.

I thought AMD only stacked cache after testing for known good chips? Is that incorrect?

You'd imagine so. There must be a mechanism that causes the failure of a couple cores while they're assembling it. Maybe parametric with a hot spot issue meaning a core can't reach frequency without overheating?

Very interesting product. Between 6C with V-cache at $229 or the 5700X at $179, it's probably priced at the upper end of appropriate.

I'd rather have the sub $200 5700x or spend the cash for the 8core 3d cache. That or buy a equal priced 7600 (or x) for $220-240 and in a couple years pick up the next gen 3d chip.

Edit: Oh, its only Microcenter...maybe if they offer one of their good combo deals I could see it being worth it for some.

You can see why there's no room for the APUs.

It def should be decently better in games than the 5700X. Spending the extra coin on the 5800X3D might however be worth it. AM5 is a lot more expensive and DDR5 is presumably still pricey.

AM4 supported till 2028?

Is AMD indirectly admitting that AM5 failed to meet their sales expectations?

They should go ahead and just release Zen3+ in AM4 with a DDR4 memory controller for base DDR4-4000 support.

From the TH article:
Micro Center will also sell a $329 bundle with the six-core 12-thread Ryzen 5 56003XD, an ASUS B550-Plus TUF motherboard, and 16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 memory.
That's pretty decent for the best budget smooth gaming experience. Period.

Competitive E-sports gamers gonna lap this up really quick!

It doesn't mean anything. They had long tail customers regardless of AM5.
They have industrial AM4 customers and embedded AM4 customers.
They have contracts to continue supplying AM4 to at least 2028. Intel made 386s until 2007.
Retail availability at a good price is not guaranteed.

AMD and Micro Center haven’t confirmed the number of processors that will be available, but Micro Center expects to have stock for a few months.
Hmm...this could be a very limited edition SKU.

Dang, $329 for $229 + $169 + $69 = $467 worth of stuff if bought separately. Since MC gives a $20 discount for bundling mobo + CPU anyways, that's still a net savings of ~$220.

I don't PC game anymore but it sure is tempting...

Something like this, wich tell us that we should expect a 7600X3D in a 12-24 months time frame...

only if they have enough defects. this new chip is a small amount for a one time release because of how good yields are on 7nm. dunno the details on the 5nm tsmc node yield rate and probably would have a hard time reading a chart in my current conditioning this young evening

I personally think the 3D v-cache is a niche market item that is not worth the premium price. If the clocks were the same or higher than standard CPU's. It would be a different story.

Only at MC.

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

Remember, only China products do get out after a bit of time too ;)
Not worth it for resellers when 290 dollar 5800x3d exists. And microcenter won't be selling them off to anyone else in bulk, since its their exclusive and it drives sales of other parts.
