Has anyone had problems of gmail deleting emails?
I noticed a few emails was deleted. I don't think i did it.
It was just odd that i was looking for certain emails and noticed a few that disappeared from the in inbox. I looked in the trash and there i found a few emails that were some how deleted.
I've also noticed a few others were deleted but those are long gone.

Any ideas what the hell it's going on? I use my nexus 5 to access my emails as well but i don't think that should be the problem. Never was before.

I just had some emails in my inbox that o wanted to keep. But for some odd reason I found it in the trash bin. I know for a fact I didn't delete it.
This never happen to me when I was using my Samsung infuse. Now I have a nexus 5 and all of sudden my EMA's in my in box r being deleted.
I don't get it

1) make sure you don't have some email client using IMAP protocol that's somehow configured to delete messages more than X days old.

2) if you use a POP client, check in Gmail settings (on the web page) to make sure it isn't set to delete messages that are downloaded via POP.

3) from the main Gmail page, click "Details" on the bottom-right and see if there has been any strange activity on your account. I work for an ISP that uses Google hosting and we see compromised accounts every other day.

Do I have to do this on my desk top PC?

Imap is clicked on as disabled. Pop is enabled. Also it said when messages r assessed with pop keep gmail copy inbox.
Is it better to enable IMAP and disable pop?
Where it said configure email client, it recommends IMAP over pop

No reason to disable either one...but IMAP is better when you're configuring a client device that doesn't have an option for "Gmail" or "Google" account type. Most email clients support both POP and IMAP and they will ask which protocol to use when you are entering the account settings for the first time.

The difference:

With POP, you're working with copies of messages downloaded from the server. You can't see other folders on the server, drafts started from another device, or your sent messages that you sent from another device. You can't check the Spam folder on the server.

With IMAP, your client device works with messages and folders (labels) that exist in one place - on the server. Deleted messages, sent messages, drafts, read/unread status...it's all synchronized between all your clients and webmail.

By "client," I mean any software or hardware that accesses your email. That includes Microsoft [Office] Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, Entourage, Mac Mail, the mail app on your smartphone or tablet, etc...

The gmail app on my ipad had a notice the other day regarding this. Yes, check your junk mail and trash folders because it may have deleted them without your knowledge.

I'm tired of gmail as it is. What is a good non-free email service?

I don't think I had an issue when I had my Samsung infuse and using the gmail app on that phone.
I started noticing it on my nexus 5 phone I just got almost a month ago. I use the gmail app daily.
