If so, would you be willing to send me two invitations for my wife and I? We'd like to check it out but do not have a mobile phone and google.com info tells me an invite is also a way to obtain them!

Do a google search on gmail invites and there are plenty of sites that give free invites.

I use it when I have correspondence likely to trigger spam. Gmail is a magnet for spam but it does a pretty good job sorting it out by itself.

Yep, until it's absolutely perfect, it's in 'BETA.'
Hell, Froogle was in 'BETA' until late '05.

i do not use an client because then my sent mail isn't stored. gmail needs imap asap 🙂 but I like the web interface enough. gmail ftw! my backup is fastmail.fm tho, paid, but a great company.
