just in case some people don't realize, it's not that outrageous that they're offering 1GB. first of all 1GB costs chump change these days, but more importantly, they know virtually nobody is going to use anywhere near 1GB. it sounds nice, but surely they did a bit of research and found out what the AVERAGE usage will likely be. I would think maybe 30mb would be average

re speed: I guess I'll get an acct then. I've always stayed far away from any sort of web-based mail, because frankly even the crappiest pop3 clients are a 1000 times better. but gmail looks so good I guess I'll have to give it a TRY

The catch is that you can't delete anything IIRC. The point is to be able to save ALL email you ever get so that you can search through it.

wait, so why can't I sign up for it? I know it's in beta, but I thought some people already signed up for it, and aren't beta's usually open to the public?
