gmail passwords leaked

there's absolutely no reason not to use google two factor authentication with your gmail in my opinion.

Like four years ago I sat down and had a beer with an IT Security guy and asked him what the most important thing for individuals to do to protect themselves was.

"Two factor authentication. Lock down your primary email address."

Been using it ever since.

That's the link you go to to check if your password was one of the ones leaked. I'm curious to see if any ATOTer's account got leaked. Apparently mine wasn't.

Also: Two factor authentication. Use it. Live it. Believe in it.

wise move, also worthwhile within gmail every now and then to check the very bottom right corner where there's a details link for account activity. it will show your last XYZ number of logins and what IP address it came from.

"No! Your account probably is not in public access! However, we are strongly recommend to change your password periodically."

My pw is 8 lower case letters, is that good?

it may not be your gmail password that was leaked ...

Update 2: We still aren't sure how these passwords were leaked or when—but some folks over on Reddit discovered that these may not, in fact, be Gmail passwords, but passwords leaked from other web sites over the years that were associated with Gmail addresses.

This seems correct. Which is part of why I keep my email account passwords different than website passwords...

Welp, leaked results were right on my account. Enabled two step and changed pw. Wasn't a fan of two step when it first came out felt like a pain in the ass to use across multiple devices.

Mine is on there but the password it lists is from about six years ago. Or a different website I suppose - its a crappy password that I might still have in use on some meaningless sites perhaps.

Can someone provide steps to enable 2 factor auth? My acct wasn't compromised according to the site above, but I think I should change things up just in case.

Edit: NVMD I jsut googled it 🙂

Yeah, I checked isleaked.com and it said my gmail was and the first two characters were correct but wrong capitalization. Either way, I have 2-step authentication so I guess I'm not all that worried about it. Time to change passwords soon anyway.

It would have been cool of them to also say which site they got the password from that is associated with each email address

but I guess can't expect hackers to be that nice 😉

Yep. In addition to enabling two-factor for everything I can, I also use tiers of password complexity. Truly private data and financial stuff obviously getting the most complex tier.
