well.. if they were purged from your trash folder... they're gone.

that's web based mail for ya.

Wonder what the odds are that Google would have a backup of all his data, or most of it. If his account really was hacked he might be able to contact Google with the issue and see if they had any backup data from before the deletion?

well.. i'm pretty sure they have data backups... but... why would they bother to restore data from backups for someone who couldn't secure their own account. Hell.. i've read stories of people in the military who passed away, and their family wanted their emails restored.. and they said no.

Yeah, but that's because that is a privacy issue. He is the actual "owner" of the account. Still doubtful, but you could always see. The sooner you contact them the more likely you can be to get your data back.

i have a palm pixi right now. maybe thats the reason.

its pointless contacting google. they will simply not get to me. i use to do some adwords management and they never responded to any requests at all so i dont see them getting back to me for free email.

Hmm.. Scary. I have a Droid.

I'd be pissed if I lost the email address I've been using for the last 6 years.

Question is how good was your pw.
Under the account activity at the bottom of the page you can see what other ips have been logged on to your account.

There might be emails you don't want read by your family anyways.

But really that is why they make you link your account to another email or phone number, so they can verify your identity if something goes wrong.

You shouldn't be scared. Just do all the basic security things like not going on networks you don't know and have a good password.

gmail wasn't hacked you fucking moron.

You used a stupid password, or you did something moronic online and gave your password to them.

Change your fucking title to something more accurate like "I'm a fucking moron and my gmail account got screwed up."

harsh.

although, changing your password periodically is still a good idea.

A thought I had, which may relate to statistics or something:
If someone is trying to break in using a brute force approach, and you don't know the passwords which have already been tried, does changing your password really improve the situation? :)

I did not know you could permanently delete email from a Gmail account. I thought I tried this before and it didn't work. I even d/l into a standalone client with the option to delete from server and it didn't work.
