People shouldn't be asking this question in OT. It's either their internet connection and/or PC 99.95% of the time.

strangely though, when threads get stickied, they also seem to die in most cases.Originally posted by: mcvickj

Look, it's not retarded, I've tried it from half a dozen computers at the school. Won't come up on any of them, but IT insists it's not filtered/blocked. Checking here is a completely reasonable step in troubleshooting, so get off my back.
So... to get this straight, your diagnosis is that Gmail is unreachable because your computer's clock is wrong? I sure hope you're not a CS student.Originally posted by: PrinceofWands
Turns out I found a network bug. I checked around campus and about half the computers are showing incorrect time/date stamps. Gmail isn't filtered/blocked here, but apparantly their system doesn't like the bogus network time. Hoping they resolve it soon, because all my homework is on there and I need it for class in about 30 minutes. 8-(

Actually incorrect system/network times are the answer to any number of undiagnosed issues. It was among the top ten fixes at both help desk jobs I've held.
I'm not saying it's specifically the time, but whatever is causing the network time issues is likely related to what's keeping an entire campus from connecting to gmail. I'd bet money on it.
