Why would I care about other threads?

Because this question has been asked before and the answer is always the same.

Apparently not, because about half of the replies said that they couldn't get to the site.

Try reading the thread.

It doesn't matter. It can never really "go down". Just different portions of it. What you are getting is a "sorry server", or the page a content switch gives you when the content and services are having difficulty handling load.

This happens all the time depending on your physical location.

Yeah, I was just trying to find out how big of an impact it was. (Just my local ISP, or more global)

Maybe instead of trying to insult my reading comprehension you should improve your own. All other threads of "is gmail down?" result in the same mixed results. It may be down for some but is not down for all.

Right, I realize that. The purpose of this thread was to ask if other people were having the problem. Instead of answering the simple question, you find the need insult me with PEBCAK--very helpful.

I don't agree with the FAQ that this is a "classic case" of PEBCAK, so I apologize if that hurt your feelings. I meant to point out that this question has already been asked many times before, and thus is in the FAQ (with an answer of "No, it isn't" - although I realize it is indeed down for some).

I've never had it completely down, but I occasionally get error messages that say "oops!... try again in a few seconds"

stfw? why do people feel the need to post this same thread every week? who cares if gmail is on the fritz every now and then? Technology ain't perfect.

I was just wondering how many people it was down for, or if it was a problem solely with my ISP.
Do you find that wrong?

not really. just the need for another person to start their own thread about it every week. Is your gmailing such a crucial aspect of your life that the immediate response to a down server is OMFG MUST POST MUST POST LORD SAVE ME? a little off the map, there, but there ya go :)

I just don't understand why no one ever posts "is hotmail down?" " is yahoo down?" when these very same issues crop up. Is this some uber-techy inside geek joke about gmail/google being down or something?

This happens all the time, regionally, with servers from many companies. What is so compelling about discovering it's affects on everyone? I NEED ANSWERS!!!

If I used hotmail and it went down, I would probably make a post out of it :p

Works fine for me.

But my question is, even if it IS really down, WTF does asking on a forum do any good? That's not gonna bring it back for you even if you are the only one experiencing the problem.
