gmail and thunderbird

how can i get my gmail account to show up with the thunderbird email client? i've already got one acct that i can view using t-bird, but i wanted to be able to view my newly created gmail account too. how can i do that? is it pop3 or imap? how do i set it up on tbird so it actually works and i can access it? please help if u can.
