GMA950 isn't that bad actually.

Why is it that integrated graphics are able to work so well? Is it because the new c2d processors are powerful enough to act like a vid card or does the CPU even get used for integrated graphics?

The CPU works in conjunction with the integrated graphics circuitry found on the northbridge. So the better CPU certainly helps, but only so much since CPU graphics processing is really slow (look at the CPU tests in 3dMarkxx).

GMA950 and 3000 don't support hardware T&L, so that's handled by the CPU. I don't know how intensive this is though, so having a faster CPU may not affect this much at all

The X3100 (which is what Santa Rosa uses) has hardware T&L.

I know, I never listed it as not having it, the X3000 and X3100 have it, plain ol' 3000 and below don't

Has any of you figured out how to adjust the amount of memory usage manually on a GMA 950?
I just ordered a pair of new memory (2x 1GB) and would like to know if there's a way to adjust that myself.

A preliminary google search suggests that the GMA 950 dynamically adjusts itself from 64MB to 224MB, depending on what's needed. Having more than than 256MB wouldn't do much anyway since the chip isn't fast enough to take advantage of all that video-alloted RAM.

On my Acer laptop, I can adjust the memory allocated to it in the BIOS. I set mine for 224mb, the maximum.

im glad my laptop has ati 1150 gpu

Which isn't much better. It's a rebadged 200M graphics chip, making it only slightly better than the GMA 950; nothing to go bragging about.

Yup, it's dynamic on laptops. I'm not sure, but I don't think it's dynamic in desktops, though I am certain it's dynamic in laptops. Although, I understood it ranged from 8 to 224MB?

I don't doubt that 256+ would be overkill, but does anyone know about bandwidth? Would there really be a difference between single and dual channel? I want to upgrade my memory, but I'm hoping to do it one stick at a time because I don't need much more, and I'm cheap.

I have a Macbook with no access to BIOS. I just thought there might be an option in the driver because my previous laptops (which had a Trident video card and the X200M) both allowed manipulation on the driver side.

I should have also mentioned that I can change it in the driver as well.
