GM working on 8 speed transmission?

the fiero better f*ing be an MR car.

they still command a pretty penny if you look for the last year model when they had worked out most of the kinks in the vehicle.

They Fiero, while cool, was not a popular car. Not many people want a 2 seat MR car. 2 seat car sales are struggling now because there's so many competitors, so there's no need for another. After all, GM has the Solstice/Sky. They don't need another.

They shouldn't even bother with the Firebird. It will be too late. Ford & Chrysler have beaten them to the game. Sales will be limited, but it's too late. My prediction is it will have a limited life.

might not be anything. ford lost the rights to the GT40 name because a kit car maker had been using it for a while and ford had not. so GM's lawyers might just be keeping up former names just in case.

thats why im not talkin much about the fiero/firebird, however ford actually SOLD the GT40 name to a guy, and he wouldnt sell it back.

dirtboy, proof that 2 seat car sales are struggling?

MR = mid-engine, RWD?

I own an American 2 seater, a Chrysler Crossfire. The sales of it are so great, they cancelled the 2006 year and almost cancelled the car completely, but word is it will be back in 2007. Every month or so on the Crossfire forums I frequent, somebody posts the sales data for all 2 seaters. The numbers aren't that great (shrinking) and the market for them is saturated.

Oh... and do you have any more proof of an 8-speed transmission other than a .jpg? I've not heard of them working on such a thing, considering they needed the efforts of 2 or 3 companies to build a 6-speed transmission that will take awhile to filter into the entire product line.

The domestic manufacturers shot themselves in the foot. More 2 seaters and niche muscle cars will not save them. If there's any of the three that has potention, it's Bill Ford's decision to hire a real CEO that knows how to turn a company around.

proof is in the pudding dirtboy, GM will turn a profit this half.

Solstice/Sky are selling like hotcakes
there is no other proof, other than GM trademarked that image, and the name.
the 6 spd should be in almost every vehicle starting late next spring.
the crossfire is one of the WORST cars to figure the sales of all 2 seaters to, its a POS.

The Fiero was originally a RR car back when it was first made, not a MR. I hope to god GM stays on track with this.

+1.....I don't think the Crossfire's sh1tty sales have to do with it only having 2 seats....

I keep hoping they'll bring back the El Camino.

I'd love a modern day version of that as long as it was done justice (V8 option)

The Fiero name will NEVER come back, and GM will NEVER build another mid-engine car for the masses.

I just drove a 1986 Fiero GT to work this morning. It is definitely MR - not RR, and always has been.

LOL

You know nothing about cars, do you?

Just because something is hot now, doesn't mean it will save the company.
Trademarking is meaningless.
Doubt the rollout on the 6-speed will be that quick.
You didn't read my post, and the Crossfire is much better than the Solstice/Sky.

Obviously a completely unbiased opinion.

Do tell us why the GTO didn't last. Once you tell us the incorrect reason I'll come back to correct you. Proceed.

Will someone please post diagram or pics of the 8 speed tranny?

No other info on it I believe other then them filing the trademark on the logo.

They didn't sell Futura and some others they lost.
And that would be trademarks, not patent lawyers that protect names.
Ford recently went on a mission to protect the Mustang name.
