in other words, you're completely unaware that the military HMMWV and the GM hummer have had nothing to do with each other for several years, and that selling the brand would not transfer any of AM General's intellectual property.
further, china already has copies.
No, I wasn't aware China already had nearly exact copies, GREAT JUMPING GOOGTROGS BATMAN! but I made it pretty clear in my post the military had the same basic thing for hundreds of thousands more. And I guess they wouldn't have to transfer the IP part to China if AM general already handed it to them, huh. Guess that sure explains why the Chinese didn't want it after all.
But if I had 158 mill lying around, I'd pick this up in a heartbeat. Trying to make something similar from scratch would cost many billions in R&D alone, not to mention buying and outfitting the factories and dealers and starting up the supply chain to make them. It's just plain stupid they can't find a buyer for this at this bargain basement price.
Looks like many folks have gotten their wish as the Hummer brand is going away. So will all the (unionized) autoworker jobs in Louisiana and Louisiana, but I guess to make an omlette you have to break some eggs.

It's hilarious that you think that the only reason any Chinese party wanted Hummer was to destroy you and your way of life.
Maybe they didn't buy it because it was a shit business proposition? I mean, just because you love Hummer and want to marry it doesn't mean it will sell any more trucks. People buy trucks from Hummer. If people don't want them, continuing to make them to try and prove a point is pathetic and one of the many reasons you had to bail out GM.
For example, BMW sold Rover for £10. £10. It was still a shitty business proposition regardless of the price and the team that bought it flogged the dead horse for five years until it died. Nobody wanted the product and the cars didn't sell. No amount of flag waving made the British public want sub par vehicles. What makes Hummer so unique that it cannot be lost to time? Nothing.
My friends just purchased one and told theirs was made in Cali. /shrug
